Reading Ambassadors
For Manga Reading Week, The Reading Ambassadors organised a drawing competition where students across the school were invited to draw themselves as Manga characters and tell stories in panel form. Seven designs were submitted and voted on. Voters attended from across the school, casting 120 votes in total. After their hard work, the voters tucked into a rewarding cupcake, freshly baked in our fabulous new kitchens by our Ambassadors.
A New Reading Partnership – From Big to Small
This year saw the beginning of a new reading partnership between Lyndale Secondary College and Lyndale Greens Primary School. It’s simple: our big students read to the small readers at Lyndale Greens; the photos speak for themselves. This partnership was initiated by the wonderful teacher-librarian at Lyndale Greens: Fotina Mangonis, whom many of our students know and love from their primary school days.
Public Speaking in Year 7
This year we started a new Public Speaking Unit in Year 7. Each student in Year 7 was required to pick an issue of personal interest, research its pros and cons and then deliver a speech to their peers, persuading them in either direction. Issues ranged from: ‘Should we all grow our own fruit and vegetables?’ to ‘Should we bring back free school lunches? Students were judged on the 3Ms – manner, matter and method; many performed exceptionally well.
