Wednesday was a great day for our students as they walked back into school and were able to quickly settle into the routines and learning programs at our school. Their sense of connection and peer relationships are always challenged during periods of lockdown, so to see them back together and enjoying the social aspect that a school community creates was very reassuring indeed.

For many families the end of lockdown couldn’t have come soon enough and the smiles on the faces of the children were equally matched by those on the faces of the parents as they waved good bye at the gates.

Our thanks to the entire school community for the ongoing support and levels of collaboration as we managed our way through the most recent lockdown.

Children who display cold-like symptoms, headaches and/or fever must be kept at home and return to school when the symptoms have passed. Children identified with health issues at school must be collected immediately from school.

We will continue to have drop off and pick up from the gates and we will follow the DET Operational guidelines that direct how we manage and approach the return to school for staff, students and the community.

Lost property has been sorted and returned where the items were named. The massive collection of lost items is not a good reflection on our student's items being clearly named, their responsibility for their personal items or our management of the entire process. Once we are able, we will put out the items and invite parents to come on site to reclaim any lost articles of clothing.

This year our school production “Rock Bottom” was scheduled for later in term 3 at the Palais in St. Kilda. Like most events and plans across the community the COVID lockdown and subsequent government directions have required us to make some changes to the scheduling of this great event.

The new venue for “Rock Bottom” is the Kingston Arts Centre.

We will run an evening show on Wednesday the 27th of October.

The second show will run on Friday the 29th of October. This will be a matinee show (during the school day).

More details for cast, families and the community will follow as we are able to confirm them.

As Caulfield Junior College continues on its modernisation journey, we are excited to announce that the school is now about to embark on a new journey with our use of technology across the school and into our home. Students having access to technology has become an almost inescapable aspect of the modern trends in learning and the new ways of working. As the world is going through the challenges raised by COVID, it also created a massive change in our learning and working habits, bringing online connection to our workplace, the classroom and the global community.

Our proposed direction for the coming 2022 school year is to embed the use of technology further into our curriculum and to have students being able to access personal devices through a structured purchasing and lease arrangement. Our proposed target groups will be all students who will be in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 next year. This new initiative will open up new areas of the curriculum for our students, and the curriculum will change and adapt to support this new way of learning. Our staff will also undergo professional development and training to be ready to facilitate activities and learnings that leverage on the newly available technology. Finally, this is a fantastic opportunity for our children to learn online in an environment that has cyber safety as a continued focus.

The school leadership team presented this new strategic initiative to the School Council this week, and it was unanimously supported as it will help our students to step up in their learning and get them ready for today’s world.

As you will certainly have many questions, we will be hosting series of parent information sessions and student forums in the coming few weeks. More details will follow in subsequent newsletters and communications to our families. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please email them into the school so we can compile an FAQ response for the families who will be part of this important rollout. Si vous êtes intéressés et que vous souhaitez apporter vos talents à cet évènement, remplissez vite le formulaire destiné au volontariat. Votre famille suit-elle avec ferveur les jeux olympiques ?

C’est l’un des avantages d’être binational : pouvoir célébrer les victoires de deux pays donne deux fois plus de joie…ou créée de la compétition au sein de la famille…En attendant, les Australiens dominent largement les Français, espérons que le weekend sera favorable aux bleus.

Bienvenue Broden

Notre nouvel assistant principal, Broden Borg, a été chaleureusement accueilli par notre communauté. Les élèves et les professeurs connaissent déjà bien son sourire et sont ravis de l’accueillir au sein de notre communauté. Broden possède un profil international et connait bien le contexte des écoles internationales. Nous lui souhaitons de réussir dans ses futurs projets parmi nous.

One of the benefits of being binational is the possibility of following two countries, double the fun… or to create some friendly competition within the family… Meanwhile, the Australians are way ahead of the French, let’s hope that the weekend balances things up.

Our new Assistant Principal, Broden Borg received a warm welcome from our community. Students and teachers alike are delighted to welcome him to our school. Broden has built an international profile; he understands perfectly the context of international schools. We wish him all the success he deserves with his new position.
