Hollows House

Welcome to 2022!

Dear families,

A very warm welcome back to you all from the entire Hollows House team. Wow! What a fantastic beginning to the 2022 school year for all the students across our HPSC community. We have supported our Year 7 students to transition seamlessly into their new Secondary School environment through our startup program, as well as seeing our other year levels complete learning dispositions sessions and engage actively in their classes. For some students, the feeling of being back in the classroom with their peers took some adjusting, as it had been some time since this experience had been felt. Overall, we congratulate all students on their wonderful start to this year and setting the benchmark for greater things to be achieved throughout this school year. At HPSC, we have this year implemented our new House model, with the aim of strengthening engagements and connections across all facets of our school community. This work began in 2020 and it is exciting to now see it coming to life.

All four houses are named after exceptional Australians who have contributed to society in very different ways

  • Hollows House (blue), named after Fred Hollows, an ophthalmologist who saved the eyesight of people all around the world
  • Freeman House (red), named after Cathy Freeman, an indigenous female athlete
  • Mabo House (green) , named after Eddie Mabo, an activist in Indigenous land rights
  • Walton House (yellow), named after Nancy Walton, a pioneering Australian Aviator

Each house has a team of staff that are leading the house. Each House is led by an Assistant Principal, House Leader, 3 Student Learning Leaders and a House Assistant.

With this we would like to introduce the House Team for Hollows

Values Nominations

It has been a huge start to the term for values nominations and we congratulate all students who have received a values nomination. Each nomination awards students with 5 points to the houses total points. Points are added up over the year and a house is awarded with a trophy for winning the House Title. We would like to publicly acknowledge everyone in Hollows house who has received an award however the list is much too long.

Respect; 3 student nominations

Learning; 97 student nominations

Working Together; 55 nominations

Leadership; 13 nominations

Community; 2 nominations

That is a total of 170 nominations in one week of school or the equivalent of 24 nominations per day in Hollows House. The Hollows House Team feels very confident that we can win the overall House competition if students keep up this exceptional start to the school year.

Attendance

Attendance is one of the single most important factors in enabling students to achieve their potential in school. Attendance makes a big difference in learning outcomes. A student who attends everyday has more opportunities to learn and is able access to their teachers and support staff more often. Every day counts. Essentially, missing one day of school a fortnight is the same as missing four whole weeks of school a year. From Prep to Year 12, that adds up to 1.5 years of school. Additionally, students who develop good habits by going to school every day are building the skills that are necessary to succeed after school, whether in the workplace or in further study.

On saying this, if a day of absence is required, please call the student absence line before the start of the school day or log the absence on Compass. This supports the Hollows Team in identifying where your child is and supports them with working with you as a team to ensure that your child succeeds in their learning goals.

There has been a massive number of students who have achieved 100% attendance already. Well done to the 110 Hollows House students who have attended school everyday for the first week. We look forward to celebrating your excellent attendance with you and will be sending letters congratulating excellent attendance as the term goes on.

As part of our HPSC House renovations in 2021, we asked our House Leaders to create infographics on the famous and influential Australian figures after whom our new houses were named.
