Herald Sun Cup

On Tuesday 22nd July boys in Year 10, 11 & 12 played in the Herald Sun Shield competition against Notre Dame, at the Kialla Park Reserve. The boys started the game putting in a great amount of effort and attitude to try and defeat Notre Dame. Throughout the first quarter, our boys got a few shots on goal, but weren't able to convert, while Notre made the most of their accuracy and took an early lead into quarter time. Coach Mitchell Jones, gave the boys some pointers to work on and after quarter time the team produced a much better quality of football.

Notre Dame were still too strong though and they converted the majority of their shots, while GSSC took their opportunity and got their first goal on the board. Half time was a welcome relief for our team and they were able to refocus and concentrate on winning the second half.

Against very tough competition, the boys were able to redeem themselves by winning the last quarter! Well done to our goal kickers Kitt McCamley, Will Batey & Jake Zerbato. Congratulations to our best six on ground Kyle Montgomery, Tanner Madigan, Lachlan Pearse, Jake Zerbato, Talon Wilson and Lachy McCully.

I would also like to thank our helpers for the day, Amarlee Zito, Marnie Owen, Ethan Fleming and our two trainees, Laura Cole and Tom Janke. Tom did a fantastic job umpiring.

The majority of the squad will be now play after the holidays at the Hume Region Carnival, where they will take on three other teams from the North East Hume Region. Good luck to the boys at that competition!
