Year 10s Course Selections

Time Line

Wednesday 16th June -  group information sessions for all Year 10’s to guide them through their possible course choices (VCE or VCAL) and the advantages and limitations of each. What VET is and what options are available to GSSC VCE and VCAL students in 2022 explained.

While the 2022 subject selection books will not be available until the start of Term 3 there are a range of resources available to assist students.

Students have received some of these at the information session on Wednesday, while others are available on the College Careers website (www.gssccareers.com) at this link https://www.gssccareers.com/custom-page/1

Wednesday 14 July

In the first week of Term 3 students will receive their subject selection packs, including course handbooks, in class. Meanwhile, that evening (COVID permitting) parents will be invited to attend a Year 10 parent information night at the Wanganui campus.

We plan to run this for our whole school community with simultaneous sessions being offered with interpreters in different languages in different rooms.

An explanation of VCE, VCAL, SBAT and VET and what they mean to you, will be delivered. It will be a great opportunity to have all your questions answered. Should COVID restrictions intervene we may need to run this session online.

Wednesday 21 July & Thursday 22 July

Subject selection interview sessions will be available for parents and their Year 10 students. Appointments will be available during the day and evening to ensure access for all families.

At these appointments parents and their students will be able to ask questions and clarify things before committing their 2022 subject preferences.

On these two days Year 10’s will be remote learning so that they are available to attend an appointment for their interview at the time of their parent/guardian’s preference.

In the coming weeks we will announce via Compass when you will be able to pre-book these appointments, via Compass or by contacting the Wanganui office. Again, should COVID restrictions intervene we may need to run these interview sessions online.
