What's happening in the classrooms

Year 6

This term the students in year 6 have been very busy and very engaged in their learning. They are doing an amazing job of switching between learning at school and learning at home. I am very proud of their efforts!

In Reading the students have been looking closely at non fiction text features (such as diagrams, maps and graphs) and how they add to the information in a text. For Writing we have been looking closely at the features of informative texts; how sentences are structured, what grammatical features are included and how text features add to the writing.

In Maths the year 6’s have enjoyed learning through inquiry. They have investigated and measured angles in different ways, explored different geometric shapes with internal right angles and are now investigating probability through a dice rolling investigation.

In our Inquiry unit on Systems the students are currently investigating different types of ecosystems. The year 6’s have been immersed into the rainforest ecosystem and have learned about animal and plant adaptations within it. They will soon be choosing an Australian animal to research and present information on.

In Religious Education the students have begun to learn about and prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Confirmation candidates have written letters to Father Michael, expressing their wish to be confirmed and all students will soon begin learning about saints and completing a mini research on a saint of their choice.
