Wellbeing

Supporting your child's Wellbeing during Lockdown.

On Friday after our Junior Dance Party I met a friend, at a local park to soak in the sunshine, walk around the lake and investigate a sensory playground.

As I sat back observing the surroundings and watching children as they climbed over an amazing rope spider web and pumped water through pipes into troughs I reflected on the students at our school and wondered about their current opportunities to mix and socialise with one another.

Children love being at school with their friends, and obviously, during remote learning, this is not an option.  We have introduced daily Story Time for the Juniors and a range of wellbeing activities for different year levels to provide children with some opportunities to gather together in a more social setting. Teachers are providing children with opportunities to have a chat with one another before learning periods so they can catch up with their friends.  These endeavours are considerate however they don't make up for opportunities for children to run around and do 'kid things.'

... so back to my park visit.

One way you could nurture your child's wellbeing during this time, particularly in the area of socialising, could be to phone the parent of your child's friend and invite them to a catch up with you and your child/children in your local park, keeping in mind current safety factors. Watching your children on the slide or running around and even more importantly laughing and engaging with their friends sounds like a great recipe for social engagement and wellbeing.

School Psychologist

We are aware that the ongoing changes can be stressful for families, and each time we participate in home learning there may be a new or different situation for you - e.g. "I have to work this time, but I wasn't before," "There is a new baby in our family," "I am not sure how to help my child with their learning."

We are only a phone call away - to listen or make some recommendations. I would like to remind parents that Dominique Furet is our school psychologist and she is available to speak with parents each Tuesday and give you tips on how to support your children and yourself during remote learning. If you would like to speak with her please contact me and I will pass your details onto her.

Wellbeing Day - Friday 21st

Next Friday, during the teacher Curriculum Day we have planned a range of Wellbeing Activities for children to choose from. These activities are optional however we would love to see any pictures posted of the activities children or their families have participated in. The Wellbeing Grid will be posted on the Wellbeing Link on Wednesday.

Finally thanks to all the children who have been coming along to Story Time and engaged in our other wellbeing activities. Thanks to the parents for organising the amazing outfits for our Preps 100 Days of School celebration - they looked super cute. (scroll along the pictures below to see some of our Preps celebrating online). Oh, and a special thank you to the parents who may be dancing along with their children during brain breaks (to the side off-screen!) Your participation, whether you are aware or not, is one way that you are nurturing your child's wellbeing during remote learning.

Take care of yourselves

I wonder if we add up all the ages ofchildern in Prep whether we would reach 100.
think a cane, a cap and glasses makes me look very sophisticated.
