Principal's News

Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe we have returned to another lockdown. I could not be more proud of the efforts teachers and parents have made to ensure that our students have the best learning environment possible.

It is disappointing for children (and adults!) when events and occasions are cancelled or postponed. As a school community, we are committed to trying to provide some fun and excitement as we navigate through this uncertain time. During remote learning, we present Story Time to the Junior classes each day at 12.00 pm.  This is followed by Wellbeing activities for different year levels at 1 pm. Visit the  Wellbeing link on our Home Learning Portal to find out more.

Parent wellbeing is just as important, particularly at this time. When parents are okay- children are okay. Check-in with yourself. If you need support please let us know. Make sure you are taking time to nurture your own wellbeing- go for a walk, touch base with a friend, pray, take time to find joy in this current situation.

Remote Learning

It is most important that students log on for remote learning on time every day. We would ask parents to check their child’s class page of the Home Learning Portal and find out when their child is learning with their teacher and when they are working independently. Check-in with your child and make sure they have completed and submitted their learning tasks each day. Just a friendly reminder that students should be wearing their school uniform when online and not in bedrooms but in a quiet space where parents can supervise their child’s learning. Students must have a pair of headphones to use when online. This reduces background noise when on Google Meets and makes it easier for students to learn and concentrate.

100 Days of Prep

Congratulations to Serena Jordan-Munro and our preps students and parents on their online celebration of 100 days of Prep last Monday - the excitement of our '100-year-old’ students when they joined online was infectious! Congratulations to the parents for the creative costumes and supporting your prep students through what we would all agree to be 100 unique days of Prep!

Confirmation Commissioning Mass

Yesterday our Confirmation candidates and their families joined Fr Michael online for the Confirmation Commissioning Mass. It was a beautiful Mass with Fr Michael reading letters from the students, and families participating in the Rite of Enrolment. This is the beginning of Confirmation preparation. We thank Lea Drury and Cristina Elicano for supporting the students and we thank Fr Michael for his faith leadership of our school.

Curriculum Day

Friday, August 20 is a curriculum day and there will be no school for students on this day. Connie Drossaert has prepared some Wellbeing activities that families may choose to do on this day. Thank you, Connie! Please see the Wellbeing page of the newsletter and the Home Learning Portal for more details.

We are hopeful that restrictions will ease and we will be back at school on Monday, August 23, pending government advice. Take care of yourselves and each other and know that we are here to support you. We look forward to seeing you all back at school soon.

Kind regards,

Suzanne Deefholts
