KWS Lakers vs OAGS – won 7-0

It was a cold, wet and miserable evening last Friday at 5.30pm, when the Lakers took to the field. We were without Charlie Hall, who had been practicing hard for The Adams Family Production and we were happy he could still perform for families.

Rhys Jones led from the forward line and quickly put one past the OAGS opposition. This was followed by goals from Ebony Inman, Bianca and Tessa Wong and Lucy Philipzen. Jemima Scammell, Zoe Harmer, Jess Taylor and goalie Henry Baker, had a quiet and cold night as the offence worked hard to keep the ball down the other end of the field. Kajan Kandeepan has been improving his skills as a defender and worked well with Lucy Reidy and Krishan Kandeepan to have some impressive passages of play. Bonnie Leighton also got involved on the wing. Everyone quickly worked out that the only way to stay slightly warm was to run!

Congratulations Lakers on a fine win in horrible conditions, 7-0, Keep it up!

KWS SPURS vs Canobolas – 2-2

Last Friday evening, between sheets of ice and rain, the KWS Spurs took the to the field to face Canobolas. We had almost enough for a full team but the girls made up for it in enthusiasm and good sportsmanship. Leading from the front there were many runs into the opposition half by McKenzie, Claudia, Eva and Alloway, and enormous support from Daisy, Ava and Sianabel in the midfield. The girls’ passing and support of each other was fantastic, resulting in 2 goals in the first half. Defensively Lucy, Maisy and Poppy in the goals worked tirelessly, making tackle after tackle and thwarting the attack of the opposition. Special mention to Poppy who made some amazing saves against a very determined Canobolas side. The result at the end was a 2-2 draw, with the girls looking forward to capitalise on their training again next week. It must be said that I have never had the pleasure of coaching such a cohesive team in 14’s before; the girls are always supportive and encouraging, they are an absolute pleasure to coach and I look forward to every week. Look out opposition, here we come!!

KWS Knicks vs CYMS Bandits – lost 6-2

In what can only be described as freezing conditions the Knicks showed fantastic enthusiasm and a great deal of perseverance. Playing the team leading the U14s competition was always going to be a tough game. Phoebe Hunter and Olivia Watts were solid at the back and made sure CYMS really had to work for every scoring opportunity. Grace Hansen was solid in the middle and distributed the ball to the forward line all night. She was rewarded for her efforts with the Knicks first goal of the night. Sienna Wilkin and Charlie Swift also worked hard in the midfield. Isabella Montagliani scored our second goal of the night. This was definitely an encouraging performance and with a little work on marking the Knicks can certainly close the gap on the team leading the competition.

KWS Raptors vs CYMS Magic – won 3-2

KWS Cavaliers vs OAGS – won 4-0

The mighty Cavs had a freezing return to Hockey on Monday night. In polar conditions we took the field against an OAGS mixed team.

We were short 4 players due to sickness and a clash of times so it was literally all hands on deck at the very last minute, with no rests.

The 4-0 score line was admirable considering the position we found ourselves in. Ava showed true grit and determination, Bella survived her first full game this season, Lolli was a revelation as a fullback and it has been confirmed that Tara is actually Wonder Woman in disguise……. Outstanding.

KWS Heat vs CYMS Tazers – 0-0

An impressive game by all girls involved considering it was such miserable conditions to play hockey in. Heat worked hard throughout the game both in attack and defense in what was an evenly poised game. Despite numerous penetrations into the circle the Heat were unable to find the back of the net. It is pleasing to see the girls hard work paying off coming away from a tough game with a nil all draw.

KWS Warriors vs OAGS – Lost 9-0

On a cold, wet night at the Hockey Centre, the Warriors were outclassed by a strong OAGS Jellybeans side in losing 9-0. Our girls tried valiantly in spite of the inclement weather, with Abby Rolfe having another fabulous evening in goal. Her ability to block the first shot, despite it being her first season between the posts, is fabulous and as her confidence grows she is only destined to get better. Liv Tudor had an excellent game in defence, and showed her confidence and calmness with several key interceptions. Georgia Sweetapple again led from the front, with a series of probing runs into the opposition goal area and persistent tracking back to thwart the OAGS attacks. The rain also brought out the best in Polly Napier who held the ball up well in attack, and made it a difficult night for a number of their defenders.

KWS Timberwolves vs CYMS – won 3-2

Top 4 clash.

What a great game of Hockey.  Timberwolves played their best game of hockey so far in 2021. They needed to against the more experienced and higher placed CYMS team.  Half time score was locked nil-Nil despite many attacking raids by Timberwolves, Will Kerr, Dylan Tucker and Blake Jones almost scoring.  Thomas Cathcart was brave to volunteer goaldy and did not touch the ball in the 1st half.

The front three (Blake, Will, Dylan) were very good at setting up our fall-away early & we’re aptly guided by our midfield Jackson Essex, Charlie Tink, Mac Webster, Gus O’Neil and Luke hunter who also served the team with high work rate, positive communication and clever short passing.

In the second half the team played even better hockey: dissecting CYMS with clever and accurate short 1-2 passing through our mids and strikers.

Our back 4 (Matt Shep, Luke Hunter, Donald Vance & Sandy Robb) were reliable and determined in defence. almost impenetrable.  Thunder scored from an accurately drilled PC that was deftly placed in between our goaldy and the postie.

We fought back with a deft overhead finish from Dylan who followed up moments later with the match winner.

Timberwolves 2, Frosties 1. Timberwolves move up to 2nd on the Ladder

Very pleasing to see the spirit, sportsmanship, hard work, team work and persistence from every Timberwolf.  What such good ambassadors for yourselves, your families and the school you are!

KWS Hornets vs CYMS

The Hornet's faced a strong Cyms side on Monday night. With single digit temperatures and icy rainfall, conditions were far from ideal. The Hornets played with only 10 players but still put in a commendable effort.

Some clever counter-attack from Lydia Alston led to multiple opportunities for our forwards Lucy Gilbert and Kate Cornally.

Issy Aveyard showed her skill with a superb take over tackle and sideline run. Mia Hannaford worked well in the midfield and helped link passes up the field. Despite it being Liv Fergusson's first time as goalie she made numerous saves and is this week's Player of the Match.

KWS Bulls vs KWS Mavericks

The Bulls turned up keen to play on Monday night. They played with energy of moved the ball around the field well. James Crisp did a spectacular job as goalkeeper. Well done to Fergus Connick, James Glasson and Charlie Williams who were unstoppable up front scoring a hat trick each.  Luke Dominello did a stellar job in the backline ensuring that the Mavericks super subs didn’t score on the night.
