Walk and Wheel Wednesday

Welcome back again to Term 3! It’s great to be back at school and fabulous to see walkers and wheelers arriving each day as they stride and ride through the gates.

Last week 43% of students rode their bikes or scooters or walked to school, and this week, the numbers are similar. Keep up the great work and I am certain as the weather starts to warm up again, our numbers will get to our target of 55%.

Remember with more students walking and wheeling, the streets and roads around the school will be safer as there are less cars, and these modes of transport (walking and riding) are environmental friendly. Additionally, students who walk or ride to school will arrive feeling energised, ready for the day ahead. They will have created good endorphins from the exercise that can also be a happiness booster.

My poem this week …

Today is Wednesday, August the 4th

Walking and wheeling to school, I head north!

No matter how cold in the morning it is,

And even if my hair ends up in a frizz!

I arrive at school all radiant and glowing

From the exercise I have done, my happiness is showing.

Dr Cranky's

The Dr Cranky’s program will resume on Wednesday mornings when restrictions are eased and more people are allowed on site.

The Dr Cranky’s volunteers can lube chains, fix flat tyres and replace damaged or broken gear cables or brake cables etc.. If your child's bike needs fixing, consider bringing it to school on a Wednesday morning so you can get them back riding.

If you would like to learn more about the program, please look at the website https://www.drcrankys.com.au/

If you would like to donate a bike, please email me to coordinate a drop off time Julie.Tainsh@education.vic.gov.au

Learn to Ride a Bike!

The 4th group of students started yesterday and it was great to see them all have a go and try their best in learning to balance a bike and push the pedals.

If your child is involved in the program or has been involved, please take them out riding. Some have managed to learn to ride independently and some just need more practise. All students have shown great tenacity and need to be commended for their attitude and determination.

And a huge thank you to the Grade 6 Leaders who continue to assist with the program, your help is greatly appreciated.
