From the Grade 5/6 Classrooms

Integrated Studies 'Care for the kids'

This term our students are exploring a unit of work relating to the  concept of social justice, and specifically the challenges and problems faced by children around the world. This exposure will help our students to develop the understanding of the issues facing others around the world and with it a motivation and perspective to want to make positive change.

During remote learning our students prepared keynote presentations relating to a charitable organisation of their choice. They then used this knowledge, and the platform of our physical return to school, to share with their classes the key work, messages and goals of their chosen organisation.

If you didn't have the chance during remote learning to share in this piece of work please find the time to talk with your child about their chosen organisation and the work that they do, we hope it will make for worthwhile and thought provoking dinner table discussion.

This immersive piece of work has equiped our students with a greater depth and breadth of knowledge that will serve them well as they proceed through this unit of work and begin to combine the poetry skills they are building within our literacy with this content, and understanding, to create  a spoken word poem that highlights a social issue and speaks to how we can influnce positive outcomes- so prepare yourselves for some practice performances at home later this term!
