School Council Update

School Council Update

Hi All

On Monday 8th May we held our second regular School Council meeting for 2023. I wanted to take this opportunity to give you a brief snapshot of some things discussed at the meeting:

  • Following a request for assistance from a local family, Acting Principal Kylie Nissen has approached our local member for parliament, Martha Haylett, requesting her assistance in lobbying for a safe crossing area on the busy Howe Street between MacArthur Park and Cummins Road – we await communication back from Martha

  • We recently received three brand new flags from the Hon. Catherine King’s office to raise and lower each day in our school. The school captains do this with pride each day!

  • The Building and Grounds sub-committee is currently looking at areas of our school that might need some love and attention! If you have any thoughts, please reach out and let us know

  • At our next meeting on June 5th, School Council will welcome the Junior School Council to join us for part of our meeting to share with us their plans and priorities for the year ahead from their perspective – everyone always very much looks forward to this visit!

  • In September, we will be holding an open meeting of the School Council. This is an opportunity for anyone wanting to come along to School Council to view our policies and processes, raise questions or concerns or just see how School Council operates you will be very welcome to attend – more details to follow.

We spent a large portion of our meeting talking about Communications and how we feel that all avenues could potentially operate a little smoother to ensure all families receive the communication they need in a timely manner, which we as a School Council and the school as a whole feel is very important and are working hard on.

All of our existing platforms, including our website, weekly newsletter, Sentral and Seesaw/Showbie are great areas to find the information you need, but we are also pleased to announce that very soon we will be launching the Official Miners Rest Primary School Facebook page that will ensure we have a way to supplement the information provided to everyone via social media. The School Council feels very strongly that any and all communication regarding and relating our great school on social media should be kind, considerate, relevant and free from negativity, and we hope that this new Official page will be just that.

Thanks everyone! As always, if you would like to reach out, please feel free to do so anytime by contacting my via larna.woodyatt@education.vic.gov.au
