From the Deputy Principal

Plenty Valley Christian College is such a thriving and vibrant community. While the rains have been coming down (perhaps just a little more than we would like) and the cold winds are beginning to howl, our college has ramped up in response!

This term we have already hosted more than 50 families at our open day, and this is a day that really reminds us of what a special place PVCC is. New families come to visit with wide eyes and curious hearts and almost every family remarks not only on the beautiful views, but on how wonderful our students are. And they are! I am so glad that I can be open and honest with families when talking about our school community. Of course, we have problems along the way, and we certainly aren’t perfect – BUT – our kids really are good ones, our staff really do care, our grounds really are wonderful which altogether makes this a very special community.

We have recently seen our new music director in action with secondary and primary recitals gladdening the hearts of proud parents and providing an opportunity for music students to stretch themselves and shine.

We have also had quite a number of excursions to Synchotron, Literature presentations, Careers Expo, CERES and the list goes on. Camps are in full swing with our Duke of Ed students practicing their leadership skills and year 4 students moving to new levels of independence.

Our parent-teacher interviews were held recently. Our new system threw up some hurdles, but the time spent with parents and teachers, together, continues to provide new insights, shared goals and frustrations and a sense of partnership – which is what PVCC is all about.

Senior School students have started their mid-year exams, which gives them an opportunity to take stock of their learning and identify areas of growth. All Unit 3 / 4 students will then undertake the GAT in week 8, and we then finish the term with students on mission trips, service learning, work experience, community helper learning, and our year 6 students will even premiere their own short movies to the prep students.

I am so thankful that, at this time, and in this place, our God has chosen for each of us to partner together in the development and growth of future generations. What a privilege to educate in a way that is consistent with our faith and values. As the world shudders and shakes, bombs are dropped, riots continue and wars rage on, we are here in the place of plenty, secure in the knowledge that God’s got this!
