Forest School

There has been much excitement about putting the Opinel knives into action over the past week. Many thanks to those parents who have delivered green wood for the whittling program, the children have absolutely loved learning how to manipulate the knives to begin the whittling process. Some Foundies and grade 1/2s even had a turn using peelers to whittle and were really successful! Well done to the 3/4s and 5/6s for handling the knives safely and for showing respect to the safety processes we have in place. The photos tell the story about the engagement of our young learners!

Using flint and steel to make sparks continues to be a popular activity and I was really impressed to see the commitment and focus of some Foundies and Juniors! With smaller hands they have an even greater challenge to create sparks and their sense of accomplishment is wonderful to witness.

In other highlights, a pile of dirt was delivered! I'm sure you can imagine the fun that was had. Please forgive me if your child was particularly enthusiastic, I did have to close the area when it got out of hand! Attention was then moved to throwing autumn leaves which was a lot of fun.

Our natural environment is full of such wonder. It gives me such pleasure to observe how the children find new and creative ways to enjoy it.
