Performing Arts
We have had a wonderful start to the term in Performing Arts. Students have explored many drama warm up games, developing voice and using their creative skills to develop stories. Students' confidence has developed as the term has progressed, sharing their creative talents with their peers. This term our focus is Drama and we are exploring Puppetry.
In the Junior school students have spent time with a range of puppets and props in small groups. They have also used puppets from nursery rhythms to retell stories and add interesting endings. We have created our own puppets from leaves, socks, pop-cycle sticks and cardboard. They have used these puppets to develop characters with voice, focus and movement.
Middle and Senior students have been busy planning, creating and rehearsing their own puppet shows. We are looking forward to presenting these items to other classes in a few weeks time.
We continue to build on our music knowledge learning note values, names and developing our critical listening skills through song. The topic this term has also given us opportunities to see how music effects storytelling.
Students from Years 1-6 will be exploring the story of Roald Dahl’s ‘The Twits’ investigating story telling, theatre and play building. We will will then be traveling to the Performing Arts Centre to watch the performance on stage.
Early next term Foundation students will also be traveling to the Performing Arts Centre to watch The Gruffalo’s Child.
Have a great week.
