Confirmation Information Night

On the night of the 23rd of May the Year 6 students and their parents gathered in the Reynolds Community Centre to begin their preparations for Confirmation. The night began with a discussion about the experiences of both the parents and the teachers of their Confirmation. Students (and parents) learnt more about the Sacrament to prepare them for Confirmation. We discussed what gifts each of us had within us. With their parents, students reflected on the Bible and discussed what it would be like to be there at the Pentecost.

Sorry Day Flag Raising Ceremony

On Friday the 26th of May, 10 students participated in a National Sorry Day Ceremony. It  was held at the Nagnak Gardens. During the Ceremony, an Aboriginal elder, Uncle Colin spoke about his older generation and a bit about Sorry Day. There was a basket full of gum leaves that were burned. The burnt gum leaves made a lovely scented smoke, which Uncle Collins spreaded  through the crowd and people blessed themselves with the smoke. 

At the Ceremony, we received a packet of cookies. All the cookies were made by an Aboriginal business , named Dreamtime Tuka. The two flavours were Lemon Myrtle shortbread and a wattleseed choc-chip cookie. The packets had aboriginal art on them, probably hand drawn. These cookies were a delicious treat and we all enjoyed how they were made with natural seeds and plants. 

There was a garden walk where you can look at the beautiful flora and read the signs that explained about the Stolen Generation. As we were walking, we noticed a stone paver in the ground and on it, it had St James’ name on it.
