Koori News
At the end of last term two of our senior Aboriginal students who are part of the NRL School to Work Program did a cultural walk, led by an Elder from the Koori Heritage Trust in the gardens of Melbourne/Naarm.
Young up and coming Aboriginal players of Melbourne Storm then shared inspirational stories of their journeys so far and spoke about what drives them to succeed.
A big thank you to Lyndall Down from Melbourne Storm for having us for the day.
National Sorry Day - Friday May 26th
National Sorry Day is a day to acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on how we can all play a part in the healing process for First Nations peoples and the nation.
While this date carries great significance for the Stolen Generations and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, it is also commemorated by Australians right around the country.
Kurunjang Secondary College acknowledged this day as a significant date in Australian History.
We ran a lunchtime activity in the library, painting 'kindness rocks' and playing a video of the National Apology, made by then-Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. An impassioned speech apologising to the Stolen Generations on behalf of the Australian Government.
We also did mindful colouring in which will continue next week with a competition with prizes awarded to students and staff. Submit your entry in the box at the library counter for a chance to win!!
Winners will be announced during National Reconciliation Week next week with more activities to run so be sure to keep an eye on Compass.
