Transition Process Year 7 2024

As a part of the transition process for Year 7 2024 we invited families and Grade 6 students to attend an interview where we discussed the student’s approaches to learning and answer any questions they may have at this stage. This interview is an integral part of the transition process and is conducted by a member of the School Leadership Team or Senior member of staff.

At the interview the students presents a profile of themselves which they work on at home and bring along. The student are asked the following:

  • My favourite subjects:
  • My least favourite subjects:
  • At Primary School my strengths are (skills):
  • At Primary School things I would like to improve in the following (skills):
  • Teachers should know and do the following to help me with my learning:
  • What I am looking forward to at Marian College:
  • Activities I am involved in outside of school:
  • Three goals that I feel will help me in my first year of secondary school:
  • Things I would like you to know about me:

We discuss the following elements with the families:

  • Family Concerns
  • Financial Concerns
  • English as an Additional Language needs
  • Additional Learning Needs
  • Medical Concerns
  • Student Wellbeing - Social/Emotional
  • Does the student have a sibling or relative attending/past at Marian
  • Does the student have friends attending Marian next year from their school

Many of the interviews were conducted last week and the remainder will be scheduled for the coming weeks. We find that this process gives us some additional information as to the wellbeing and learning needs of the students who will join us not far from now. The interviews are designed to be low stress and more get-to-know-you conversations. It is one part of the transition process which also includes the AAS Testing morning, a Parent Information Night, Uniform fittings, Orientation Day in December 2023 and then Orientation Week in February 2024. It was great to meet the future students of the College especially in hearing their excitement about joining our Community.
