Primary School News

It has been an exciting and busy fortnight for our Primary Years students.
" Beyond The Bin" Our Prep - Y2students learnt about the environment, recycling and sustainability. Please see below some photos from the day, a few students from the cohort have written their recounts.
We learned all about the environment and rubbish bins. Two people were from Altona Library. One of them read us a book about rubbish bins. Then we played a game. We had to guess what needed to go in the right bin. Glass goes in the purple bin. Paper goes in the red bin. Old food goes in the green. Plastic goes in the yellow bin.

First we looked at a video of where rubbish goes. Then we played a game about what rubbish goes in what bin. Next we got cards that had types of rubbish. We had to put them in the rubbish bins. Last we got a rubbish magnet.

First our class went to Beyond the Bin. Next we learnt where the rubbish goes and then we watched a video about what happens to the rubbish. We played a game of what sort goes in what bin. Lastly, we played another game and got a card each. We had to try to put it in the right bin.

I went to the Art room to do the sorting bins. I had so much fun, today was the best day of my life. Would you believe everyone got one magnet and paper to help the parents know what things go in the bins.

Mother’s Day High Tea
On Friday 12th May the Primary team hosted our annual Mother’s Day High Tea, an afternoon to celebrate the women we love most. We were so very lucky to have the support of some of these wonderful mums to assist in the cooking, setup and delivery of over 150 grazing boxes for our families to enjoy. The primary team wish to send our thanks to – Barbara, Kimberly, Fiona, Sylvia, Charmaine, Sarayah, Felicity, Liz and Lisa. Altona College would also like to make a huge shoutout to ‘The Wee Kitchen’ who generously donated scone mix, jam and cream for us all to enjoy. We hope everyone had a wonderful afternoon eating yummy treats, chatting with friends and having a dance. Please see below some photos from the day.
Milk Experiment
Our Year 3 students have been taking part in a literacy experience to help them engage in their writing. We followed a procedure to carry out a milk experiment and then wrote a recount of what we did. Please see below some photos from the day.
Coles Excursion & Picnic
The Year 3s and 4s headed off on a walking excursion to Coles in Altona. This was part of a learning experience linked to our Healthy Bodies Inquiry. In a group, they had to plan a healthy lunch using Coles online and create a shopping list sticking to a budget of $5 per student. After their shop, the students had a healthy picnic lunch in the park! Please see below some photos from the day.
