Years 7-12 Athletics Carnival - Reminder

This year we are holding our Senior School Athletics Carnival on Monday 5th June at Bannockburn Oval, Pymble. Unfortunately, our regular Athletics Carnival location, the Sydney Academy of Sport at Narrabeen, is undergoing track maintenance and is currently unavailable for school bookings. The added distance to Pymble, will have some impact on the timings and how the day is managed, however, we are confident we will be able to host a successful carnival.

An Athletics Carnival is an important day in any school calendar, therefore a compulsory event for all Secondary Students. Students will be expected to be supporting their House and peers when they are not competing, therefore, it is expected that students will be at the event for the entire day and won’t be signing out early when they have finished their event or part way through the day.

Location - Bannockburn Oval, Pymble (Corner Bannockburn Road and Birubi Avenue, Pymble)

Bus Transport Timings – Departure - Buses will depart from South Creek Road Carpark.

  1. Early buses - Depart 7.15am (required for 800 metres and javelin events)
  2. Main bus fleet - Depart 8.30am roll call and then departure.
  3. Return buses - Depart Pymble, 2.30pm.

Private Transport – There is limited parking at the event, however, if students are making their own way to and from the carnival, they must ensure they arrive in time for any early events (if they are competing) and all students must be there before the official welcome at 9.30am and stay for the duration.

Note: due to the logistics of organising buses for the entire Senior School, it is essential we are aware of exactly how many will be on the early buses, main body, or making their own way to or from the carnival. Therefore, each of these options need to be indicated on the permission form by Wednesday 31 May 2023. All families need to complete the form via the link in the recently published notice on the Pittwater House App.

Program – Click on the attachment to view the detailed 2023 Program with timings:

Food – The Pittwater House canteen will be running a simple canteen at Bannockburn Oval. It will consist of a BBQ, snacks, and drinks.  Normal lunch ordering will not be available.

Equipment Needed – Although there is plenty of room for spectators, there is not an undercover stand and students will likely be sitting on the grass hill. Therefore, students are recommended to bring with them:

  • A waterproof picnic blanket.
  • A raincoat.
  • A Pittwater House hat and sunscreen
  • Water bottle
  • Money for canteen or packed recess and lunch.

Clothing – This is a House based competition, students are encouraged to support their House by wearing an item of their House colours. However, outside of House colours, students are to be in their Pittwater House sports uniforms and/or tracksuits.

Wet Weather – Unlike Narrabeen, this is not an all-weather track, nor is there spectator shelter in the event of rain. Therefore, if there has been heavy rain in the lead up to the carnival or forecasted to occur during the event, the carnival will be cancelled, and other arrangements will be made.

Parents – Parents and family are always welcome at these events as spectators. A mobile coffee van is being sourced for the event. Please be aware that students are expected to be there for the entire carnival, therefore, if you do come as a spectator, please do not request to take home your son or daughter early. All early departures for valid reasons will need to be submitted via the Pittwater House App prior to the day of the Carnival. As facilities are limited at the location, we recommend spectators bring a picnic chair or blanket. Please also be aware that parking is limited to the suburban streets surrounding the location.

Please keep an eye on communications in the days leading up to the carnival, and between 7.00 and 7.30am on the day of the carnival.  If the carnival is cancelled, normal school classes will occur.

The Egg Parenting Challenge: Cracking Open Lessons in Responsibility and Care

The Year 12 CAFS class are excited to be a part of a unique and valuable learning experience: the Egg Parenting Challenge.

This fun and educational project is designed to teach students about the responsibilities and joys of parenthood while nurturing essential life skills.

So, what exactly is the Egg Parenting Challenge?

Each student has been given an egg to look after for 3 days. During this time students will have to ensure the egg’s safety and protect it from any accidents.

Now, you may be wondering why we are incorporating this into our curriculum

The Egg Parenting Challenge serves several purposes:

  1. Responsibility and Accountability: Students learn about the roles of parents and carers, one of which is to promote wellbeing, so the dependant is ‘shell-tered’ and nourished.
  2. Assess the impact preparations can have on the wellbeing of the dependant: students develop problem-solving skills and must plan and prepare how they will keep their “egg child.”

Students will be encouraged to reflect on their experiences and share them with their peers, engaging in open discussions. This fosters effective communication skills and the ability to articulate personal experiences in their writing.

Good luck Year 12 CAFS!
