Physical Education

Term Two provides many wonderful opportunities for the children to continue to build upon their Physical Education skills. The Intra-School Cross Country event has already taken place in Week 2, with 48 of our Year 4-6 students selected to represent the school at the Syndal District event in Week 4. The year 6s also commence the weekly winter sport competition as well as take part in a Soccer Round Robin in Week 7. Lunchtime Sports has commenced for 2022, providing additional opportunities for all students to participate in sport outside of their PE lessons.

 

Foundation/Prep

This term, students will develop their knowledge and understanding of correct kicking technique. Physical Education classes will focus on the soccer kick, providing varied opportunities to practice and refine the skill. Students will participate in learning tasks which break down the various elements of the skill, before combining the movement pattern to enhance consistency and accuracy. These tasks will require collaboration and teamwork as students work together to achieve their goals. Prep students will also explore Gymnastics and the movement patterns required to undertake various tasks. They will utilise a range of equipment and resources throughout the unit to develop their spatial awareness, coordination and fundamental movement skills.

 

Year 1 & 2

This term, students will continue to develop their fundamental movement skills with a focus on one-handed striking in tennis.  Students will explore this sport through a range of activities and modified games, allowing them to gain confidence in object control and hand-eye coordination. They will also draw on their experience from previous work on under and over arm throwing to assist with the development of tennis specific skills, through transfer of knowledge.  Year 1 and 2 students will also explore the sport of Gymnastics.  They will utilise a variety of equipment, as well as team-work and collaboration, to perform a number of jumps, balances and simple movement combinations.       

 

Year 3 and 4

 

This term, students will be introduced to the sport of Badminton.  They will explore correct technique of serving, forehand and backhand strokes and experiment with court movement and footwork through a variety of activities and modified games.  In the second half of term, students will move onto a gymnastics unit.  They will be utilising a variety of equipment to perform jumps and tumbling as well as individual and partner balances. Students will spend time perfecting technique in order to link fundamental gymnastic skills in simple routines.     

 

Year 5 and 6

 

In Term Two, students will explore the key skills involved in Volleyball, including the dig, set and spike. They will refine their existing technique through intrinsic and extrinsic feedback, whilst also experimenting with various types of footwork to enable efficient movement around the court. These skills will be undertaken in multiple contexts, including in isolation and minor and major games. Students will also participate in a gymnastics unit where they will perform various movements, including jumps, rolls, tumbles and balances. They will refine technique whilst linking these skills to create movement sequences and routines.
