Staff in the Spotlight

With so many staff joining our team this year, we would like to give our school community the opportunity to get to know our new teachers in a fun way. Each week we will be spotlighting a new staff member and sharing with you all sorts of fun and interesting stories about who they are and most importantly, why they became a teacher and what they love most about teaching!

This week we are spotlighting

Todd Chamberlain.

Todd is an experienced Science teacher and is joining our staff team as a Learning Specialist. His area of expertise is Chemistry, and we are thrilled to have him onboard!

How long have you been teaching?

10 years

What school/university or organisation have you come from?

Cranbourne East Secondary College

Why did you decide to become a teacher?

While I was at high school, I tutored a number of students in both primary and secondary school. I found that I really enjoyed teaching topics that I am passionate about and those 'ah ha' moments that students have.

What do you love most about teaching?

Supporting students to develop their understanding of science and how it relates to the world outside of school along with helping them develop necessary skills for life after school.

What are three things you would like your students to know about you?

One of my best recent teaching moments is helping all students from my 2021 year 12 Chemistry class successfully pass the subject and have study scores that enabled them to get the course they wanted. Another great teaching moment was when I was working with a team to develop authentic STEM opportunities where students could develop solutions to problems in a real-life context and present them to experts in the field. Students really enjoyed these experiences and learnt many new skills.

Where's your favourite holiday destination?

So far my favourite holiday destination is Japan. I have been twice in two different seasons and hope to go back for autumn and spring.
