We commenced calf marking in the beef herd on Monday with Mr Millichamp and Mr Edwards. This has enabled some of our Year 11 students to be assessed for the Identify and Mark Livestock unit, a second assessment will be carried out towards the end of the term when Mr Adams commences lamb marking our cross bred lambs. Ms Warden will also be carrying out lamb marking with our dorper lambs this term.

Over the next weeks we will be undertaking broadleaf weed control in our pasture paddocks both on the flats and in the hills to improve the quality of the pasture and any hay or silage that we make.

We have made a decision to plant 7 ha of maize this summer to provide us with maize silage for our herd during the Autumn period in 2023. As part of the planning process we have soil sampled the paddocks that we are going to sow with maize and will send them off for analysis to determine our fertilizer requirements. The growing of maize will also provide us with another opportunity for our students to be involved in machinery operation in a safe environment.

Mr Olde and his students are doing a fantastic job in the College gardens keeping up with the weeding, pruning and mowing of the College oval.

I would like to remind all students that when they are rostered to farm in term 2 and term 3 they need to bring their wet weather gear with them.
