Thank you!

I would like to take the opportunity of thanking our amazing Class Teachers and Administration for their support and dedication to ensure the curriculum in the class area continued despite one or more teachers being away each day throughout May. It has certainly been a challenging month. I also need to acknowledge and thank students for their behaviour and cooperation as they had relief teachers regularly. Our relief teachers did a fantastic job, often teaching out of their area, but ensuring they followed the detailed lesson plans left by our absent staff to ensure students did not fall behind.

Student Absentees

Unfortunately, many students have also experienced time off school throughout May. This has obviously been unavoidable and further absentees are likely as a particularly harsh flu season is predicted over winter. Students should be taking their class work and devices home with them when they go so that they have the capacity to learn from home if required. Students are reminded that as soon as they are well enough to do so they need to be accessing Connect and undertaking missed class work. It is not possible with so many absentees for staff to individually follow up and instruct absent students as to what they need to be doing. Upon a student’s return to school they will be expected to undertake assessments with other students in the class so it is critical that they do access missed work from home, email their teacher to get support if required and read the HAC Chat that is emailed to them to ensure they are prepared for these assessments.

Exams

Well done to the Year 12 ATAR students who have completed their Semester 1 examinations this week. I would also like to wish the Year 11 Extension students all the best for their upcoming exams. They have their UniReady Exam next Friday morning (10th June) and then their Mathematic Applications exam on Tuesday 14th June. Due to the larger class size the Year 11 students will do their exams in Room 6. This will mean minor classroom changes to ensure that the students can undertake their exams without being disturbed by unnecessary movement and noise around the area.

Wishing everyone a relaxing and safe long weekend.
