Year 3/4 News

End of Term 2

It is hard to believe that we are nearly at the end of another term! We would like to recognise the efforts of all the students this semester. We wish all the families a safe and happy holiday break and look forward to an exciting term ahead!

Over the holiday break, we recommend that all students continue to practise telling the time and work on their automatic recall of multiplication facts.

Year 3: 2, 3, 5 & 10

Year 4: Up to 10 times tables

Sovereign Hill

Last week, the 3/4 students headed to Sovereign Hill to learn about the history of the Gold Rush and the different immigrants who migrated here.

The students enjoyed panning for gold, some even had a stroke of luck and yelled out 'EUREKA!' when they found a small speck in the river. Others chose to spend their money buying a small gold flake from the gift shop, while a lot chose to buy quite a few sweets from the confectionary store.

Although the weather wasn't the greatest, the students all had an absolutely wonderful day exploring Sovereign Hill.

Here are some photos of the children enjoying the different activities.

PBL

The students have completed and started to present their cultural suitcases to their classes this week. We have been so impressed with the effort and depth of the presentations so far and the work they have done for this unit this term. Students' engagement in this unit has been really high and we are so proud of the attentiveness they have shown to other students and guest speakers. The 3/4 teachers were extremely impressed with the questions they devised to ask a family member about their culture and their research about their cultural traditions and celebrations.  In their suitcase, they were required to choose 10 items that they would like to keep about their culture. These items would represent their culture and be passed down to future generations.

Here are some examples of the slides of two students who presented their cultural suitcases earlier this week.
