COLLEGE COMMENCEMENT MASS
To formally mark the commencement of the 2019 school year, St Pius staff and students gathered at Our Lady of Dolours Church for the first school Eucharistic Celebration. This solemn Mass was a tremendous display by the student body of their sense of occasion. Led by Fr Jim McKeon, we were able to add a scriptural dimension to our understanding of the 2019 theme of “Unity in Community.”
The students heard that from the Hebrew Scriptures, “a three ply cord is not easily broken” (Eccl. 4:12) along with the idea of St Paul, each of us receives gifts to use “for the common good” (1 Corinth. 12:7). Further to this, we heard in the Gospel that Jesus prayed for all believers; he prayed “that they may all be one” (Jn 13:21). Fr. Jim was then able to integrate all of these themes into his homily so as to let us know that to create good men for society, our community requires everyone and all types of people – not solely our friends.
A special thanks to all the staff and students who provided their services to ensure that our Mass was a truly sacred occasion, in particular Ms Pip Waters who led the musicians and choir. There were also a number of students involved as Eucharistic Ministers, readers and altar servers. As always, it is our local clergy who provide our students with a positive experience of Church. To this end, the St Pius community would like to thank Fr Jim McKeon for his passion and commitment to the faith development of the young men of our community.
