Loving the Library @ MSC

A warm welcome to all of our new staff and students!
This year we have started with a great feel to our environment, continuing with our focus on creating a supportive and comfortable space for individual growth and learning at MSC.
With the addition of some final changes, our library continues to develop as our team works further to improve our book collection with the addition of a classroom library. We look forward to supporting this extension to the library space, with the growth of the Independent Reading Program.
We will also continue assessing and tagging books with reading level indicators to support the Independent Reading Program and continue grouping books into Genre’s (themes) to help students easily find what suits their individual interests.
All year 7 – 12 students start the year with a Library Connect lesson when they come in to borrow their first book for the year. This is a great opportunity to become re-acquainted with the library layout and the location of different books in the library. The Independent Reading Program remains as an influence to student loans, of which I will share updates in newsletters throughout the year.
We continue to supplement our collection with new releases, curriculum based topics and staff/student requests. Students can approach one of our team at any time for support in the library. The library is open from 8.30am – 4.30pm. Recess and lunchtime are for schoolwork, study or independent reading. We are now offering a DVD loan service. Students may borrow 4 items on a fortnightly basis and are able to re-borrow if required.
We will continue to collaborate with Melton City Libraries to extend the services offered to our students. Online Memberships will be introduced during class later in the term and will enable our students to use many different online services.
We are very happy to continue supporting senior students in the Year 12 independent Quiet Study Room located in the library.
Looking forward to another prosperous year at MSC in the Library.
