 Achievements over the summer time

  • Melissa Oloamanu Yr 11 netball and Jess Rastrick Yr 11 rugby, were successful nominees for the School Sport Victoria Sporting Blue award for 2019. Only one award per sport is awarded statewide. The girls are the 13th and 14th winners of a Blue for our school since its inception in 1994. More details of the presentation will be in later newsletters after the ceremony at the MCG in late March.
  • Grace Valele Yr 12, has been selected in the Samoan u/21 netball team to play in the Oceania Championships in June.
  • Mel Oloamanu Yr 11, has been invited to train with the Victorian Fury netball squad, the 2nd highest netball level in Australia.
  • Hakaraia Tahi Yr 10, has been selected in the Australian Country Cup Team for basketball to travel to NZ at Easter. 
  • Trinity Skenderis and Eva Lavanda, both in Yr 11; and Ella Tyson Yr 10, have been chosen in the Western Jets Girls AFL squad for this year.
  • Ella Tyson has also been selected in the Victorian All Nations team to play in Cairns in April
  • Ex student. Riley Theo and Nate Dowdy Yr 11, have made the Western Jets Boys squad.

 

House Swimming Carnival

The annual House swimming Carnival was held at Melton Waves recently.

Results were:

1st –  Yangardook            478pts

2nd – Pywheitjorrk          475pts

3rd –  Kororoit                 442pts

4th – Djerriwarrh            279pts

Yr 12 student and State representative, Manar Mahfouz, broke 4 records – she broke 2 of her own records and the other two were from 2003, previously held by another National representative, Lauren Collins.

The interschool team will be published soon. Selected individuals need to notify Mr Darcy asap if they are unavailable.

Sport Excursion Reminders

  • All consent forms must be returned like every other excursion to the front office WITH the payment by the due date on the form.
  • No student will be allowed to bring the consent form on the day and/or bring the money on the day.
  • No CONSENT form - No MONEY –  not returned by DUE date = No GO = get left behind = unhappy team and coach
  • If your family qualify for the Camps and Excursions fund provided by the Govt you need to collect a form from the General Office. This helps you pay for all camps and excursions, but it must be registered by June. You can only access the fund after your form has been processed.

We have a Facebook page dedicated to our Interschool Sport and the Athlete Development Program (ADP) participants. Please have a look and ‘like” us to keep up to date with the many outstanding achievements by our students in sport. The page name is - Melton Secondary College - Sport/Sport Specialism.

 

General Information

  1. If any parent/guardian wishes to help out in the sport program please feel free to contact Mr Darcy. You can help out as an official at the athletics carnivals or assist in umpiring any of the programmed sports e.g. volleyball, AFL, netball. Parent participation is much appreciated. A Working with Children Check is compulsory.
  2. AMART SPORTS – Melton SC is part of the community kickbacks program with Amart Sports in Woodgrove. Every time you make a purchase just mention our school and we will receive 5% of the purchase amount. If you join online you will receive a loyalty and receive discounts etc as well as already having registered our school as your preferred community kickback. We have the same arrangement with REBEL SPORTS.
  3. School Sport  Information

All information regarding School Sport information and State team selection trials can be found on the website – www.ssv.vic.edu.au/TeamVic Students attending schools affiliated with SSV are eligible for selection in Victorian Teams to compete in 2020 School Sport Australia National Championships.

March 19 – Rugby League 9’s – u/18

Thursday March 26 – Swimming Western Region in Geelong
