Principal's Report

Dear Families,
It is a mark of the educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it. Aristotle
As we move into our final week of Term 3, I would like to take this opportunity to thank staff and families for their continued contribution to our school and for supporting our wonderful students in their growth and academic journey. Without the ongoing support of families, volunteers, parents, grandparents and community members we would not be able to run certain programs and provide extra support for many of our students. Thank you for all you do to add enormous value to the core educational work of our school.
State School Spectacular
A big congratulations to all of our students who spent a wonderful albeit long day at Hisense Arena on Saturday performing in the spectacular. You were fabulous performers and we are so very proud of your efforts. The many rehearsals and time spent knowing your parts are to be commended. A huge thank you to Mrs. Cook and Mr. Fox for all your time, effort and support to all the students and families.
New Provider
Last Newsletter I announced that we will have a new Before and After School care and Vacation care Provider from 2019. Starting from Tuesday January 8th, 2019 the Vacation care program at Boronia Heights PS will be run and operated by OSHClub. Last Friday we sent home to every family information regarding OSHClub, prices, procedures to enrol etc. OSHClub will be holding a Parent Information Night on Monday 29th October at 6:30pm. If you wish to know more and would like to meet and ask questions, this meeting gives you the perfect opportunity. The night will be held in the BER building and I look forward to introducing our new providers and allow them to share with our community their program.
Footy Fun Day
This afternoon we will be celebrating Footy Day with a dress up parade. All students are encouraged to come dressed in their AFL gear or alternatively if they don’t follow an AFL team, they can dress in other sporting codes such as soccer, rugby league, netball, basketball or baseball for example. A parade of all students will be afternoon. Parents are most welcome to attend.
Year 4 FAMPA night
A huge thank you to our Year 4 students and their parents for participating in a great maths night on Wednesday evening. The pies were hot and the footy knowledge was flowing. It was fabulous to see everyone involved in maths with a great footy theme. A Big thanks to the year 4 staff and their organisation and effort, it was certainly appreciated by all the students.
Australian Migration Museum
Thank you to all the parents, grandparents and friends that joined in with the year 5 student’s presentations yesterday. It was extremely obvious that the students were engaged and thoroughly enjoyed explaining their projects and knowledge learnt to their visitors. Their presentations were creative, informative and so interactive. Using Kahoots and QR codes was also engaging for their guests. Well done year five students and staff, a wonderful final platform to share your knowledge with everyone.
Uniform Shop
At this time of year our uniform shop can get extremely busy and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Kelly Dennis and Natalya Kleuvers for their dedication and support given to our school community. We would like to also encourage all of our families to support our second hand uniform shop. If your child has grown out of their uniform or you are replacing their uniform we would appreciate your support by giving families the opportunity to purchase at a vastly reduced cost Boronia Heights uniform. These uniforms can be handed to our office staff.
2019 Parent Payments
School Council approved the 2019 parent payments at our last school council meeting. This information will be sent out to all parents early in Term 4. We endeavour to get this notice out early to help families with their planning and budgeting. The notice detailing the 2019 Parent Payments will outline the various payment options for parents. If you have any questions whatsoever about the 2019 parent payments, please call in and ask at the office or phone Lori, she will be happy to explain and clarify.
A separate order form and payment option will be sent home during next year for the purchase of the 2019 annual school magazine/year book.
2019 Enrolments
With planning and preparation well underway for the 2019, it is vital that we are aware of enrolment changes for next year. If you know that your child/children will not be attending Boronia Heights Primary School in 2019, it would be appreciated if you would inform teachers and the office staff as soon as possible in writing, with the school they are transferring to. Your attention to this will assist us greatly with forward planning.
Strawberry Alert
The Education Department have asked schools to emphasise the need for precaution to anyone in possession of the Donnybrook, Berry Obsession and Berry Licious, Love Berry, Delightful Strawberries, and Oasis strawberries should dispose of them or return to the place of purchase. These brands have been removed from sale. Anyone who finds a contaminated strawberry should contact their local police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Hats Term 4
Just a reminder that Boronia Heights is a SUN SMART school and hats are compulsory in Term 4. Please have a look for your child’s hat over the holidays and make sure it is clearly labelled with their name.
Children know they will not be allowed to play out in the sun without their hats.
Last Day of Term
The last day of Term 3 is fast approaching and I would like to remind parents that students will be dismissed at 2:30pm on Friday 21st September. We will be celebrating the term with a Happy Hour. Students have been practising their items, we would love to see parents and family members at Happy Hour. Happy Hour will begin at 11.30am and go through until 1pm. I would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable September holidays.
Kind Regards
Leanne Jennings ~ Principal
