Year 8 Physical Education Electives
Pass it to me
Students will be expected to participate in a highly competitive environment that will focus on team work, game sense and ball handling skills such as receiving and passing. They will work on their decision making and execution of their skills under pressure. Students will be exposed to different roles in a team, playing in defensive, midfield and attacking positions. They will focus on these skills through modified games and a variety of sports including modified throwing and catching games, AFL football, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, touch football and indoor hockey. This will give students the opportunity to develop sport specific skills and game awareness.
Minor Games
Students will participate in various sports and strategy games, which will include indoor AFL football, handball, netball and other non-invasive games. There will be a focus on skill development, game awareness, designing new games and modifying existing rules. There will also be a strong focus on strategy and tactics and students will be required to think strategically, collaborate with team members and implement team plans into a game situation.
Active Body BOYS
Students will focus on developing an understanding of basic fitness components, fitness testing, training principles and personal training. They will apply their understanding through developing their own fitness circuits and programs designed for individual needs. Students will measure and analyse their own physical activity levels, and learn to make recommendations for improving or maintaining those levels. They will focus on the maintenance of regular participation in moderate to vigorous physical activity and develop an understanding of the relationship between fitness, physical activity and health. Students will analyse their participation during a sport specific component of the course.
Active Body GIRLS
Students will focus on developing an understanding of basic fitness components, fitness testing, training principles and personal training. Footy Codes
Students will be focusing on a variety of football codes, which include AFL and soccer. They will develop basic game strategies, skills, game awareness and rules required for each football code. Students begin discussions on what is required to coach, plan and run their own training sessions for each football code.
Match Point
Students will participate in court based sports and activities that include volleyball, bat tennis, table tennis and badminton. The focus will be to develop and improve the fundamental skills required for the different sports. Students will also work towards building their knowledge of the rules, processes and game sense elements required. They will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding through physical participation and taking on administrative roles.
