Debating

–Students undertake a program of learning to debate effectively. They form teams and engage in school based competition.

–Students will also participate in Debaters association of Victoria schools competition which is held at night. Students must be able to attend 3-5 debates per semester.

 

The Share Market Game

The Game gives you an opportunity to learn about the sharemarket and how it works. You can buy and sell shares in 200 nominated companies listed on ASX using live prices and will be charged brokerage on each trade, simulating real sharemarket conditions.

 

AUSLAN

Complete a course of AUSLAN including translating English to AUSLAN, finger spelling, greetings.

Learn a range of signs and engage into conversations with others.

Learn how to communicate with members of the Deaf community

 

Community News

Build your journalism skills by becoming the reporters of the goings on at The Lakes. Could include setting up a fortnightly ‘Lakes Eyewitness News’ TV program for transmission to the rest of the school.

Be involved in the editing and collation of the Lakes ‘Inspire’ Term Magazine.

 

Student Peer Coaching Program

Undertake a structured training program to learn how to be an effective coach and mentor to younger students. Work with younger students to set goals and work to achieve them.

 

 

Psychology

Psychology is the scientific study of how people behave, think and feel. Psychologists study everything about the human experience from the basic workings of the human brain to consciousness, memory, reasoning and language to personality and mental health. Psychology is one of the most popular VCE and university courses that anyone can take for fun and interest. Psychology is also one of the fastest growing professions.

 

Drama

Students will be working on their understanding of how to create drama in term 1 (interpretation) and then focus more on theatre studies elements (working with existing texts) in term 2.

 

Early Years 'Night under the Stars' Production (Semester 2 Only)

Students work in conjunction with Early Years Teachers and students to produce the Early Years ‘Night under the Stars’ Production. The focus will be on stagecraft including costumes, make up, set design and building, sound, light and organisational requirements

 

Tool Box Tradies

Presented in conjunction with ONTEC students will experience a range of trade areas including mechanics, wood and metal. Students will travel to ONTEC (Lalor Station) to participate in the program for 12-16 weeks.

Students will be required to provide appropriate clothing such as work pants

 

Creative Arts

Students explore and use a range of mediums to create art works. Undertake major artistic projects around the school. Learn about different artists and styles
