Year 9 Arts Electives
Dance
Just Dance
Students will discover a wide range of concepts and skills within a variety of dance genres. They will examine a variety of mainstream and alternative choreographers and dance pieces focusing on fundamental elements of dance – alignment, flexibility and improvisation. Students will work in small groups to create a tutorial on a dance skill of their choice. They will also be required to work in groups to present a choreographed routine in a style of their choice. The theoretical component examines the elements of dance, choreography structuring devices, and dance style analysis, comparison and evaluation. Students will also incorporate the skills they have learnt into a class dance, which they will perform in front of an audience.
Media
Visual Media and Digital Photography
The media are among the most powerful cultural influences in society today. The media inform, educate, entertain, and offer an interpretation of the world. Through investigating issues involving the media and their effect on society, and exploring, on a practical level, aspects of the media industry, students will be better equipped to cope with social and technological change. In this course, students will participate in examining and producing media materials. By working in a team and individually to produce media materials, students will develop the skills of cooperation, collaboration, problem-solving, and communication.
Students will explore the idea of representation, specifically in photography form, in order to build a portfolio of work that can be manipulated and reviewed through a range of computer programs. Students will take their own photographs and create their own exhibitions.
