PRAYER

BEATITUDES FOR PARENTS

Blessed are those parents who make their peace with spilled milk and with mud,

for of such is the kingdom of childhood.

Blessed is the parent who engages not in the comparison of his child with others,

for precious unto each is the rhythm of his own growth.

Blessed are the fathers and mothers who have learned laughter,

for it is the music of the child’s world.

Blessed and wise are those parents who understand the goodness of time,

for they make it not a sword that kills growth but a shield to protect.

Blessed and mature are they who without anger can say "no",

for comforting to the child is the security of firm decisions.

Blessed is the gift of consistency, for it is heart’s-ease in childhood.

Blessed are they who accept the awkwardness of growth,

for they are aware of the choice between marred furnishings and damaged personalities.

Blessed are the teachable, for knowledge brings understanding,

and understanding brings love.

Blessed are the men and women who in the midst of the unpromising mundane,

give love, for they bestow the greatest of all gifts to each other, to their children,

and—in an ever-widening circle—to their fellow men.

THIS WEEK

This week we had the commencement of Winter sport which was fantastic for the boys.   I know the boys loved having a game.

Below are some photos taken of the 11s game against Barker.  The boys were certainly pleased to be playing.

Next Wednesday, 5 August, will be a school staff meeting in the afternoon but we will still be having the Under 11 Rugby training.  It will be in the gym at the Chatswood campus. The boys will need to bring their sandshoes/runners, not their Rugby boots. If you are picking up your son it will be in Kirk Street as per a normal training day, with the same finish time.

CLASS/INDIVIDUAL/PERFORMING ARTS AND OTHER PHOTOS

MONDAY 3 AUGUST

Today the boys will come home with an order form for the photos next Monday.  Photos being taken will be Class, Individual, Performing Arts and other Group Photos.

The boys MUST bring back their completed order form on Monday.  If they don’t have their order form they won’t be getting their photos.

The Performing Arts and other group photos will be held between Periods 4 - 6; please see the attached running order listing.

Please note:  If your son has a specialist music lesson on Monday,  at a time when they will be having a photo please ensure your son discusses this with their tutor and arranges another appropriate lesson time.

REMINDER ABOUT DISMISSAL PLAN IN THE EVENT OF A POSITIVE COVID 19 RESULT.

Since several schools in Sydney have been closed, I thought it wise that you ensure your son is aware of your wishes in case of a positive COVID-19 case at the College.  Will the boys going home on public transport, walk home or are you picking him up in Kirk Street? The boys will have their phones to ring you or if they don’t have a phone, they can borrow a phone but just in case you are unreachable they need to know your wishes.  If we have a positive case, please be aware that means the person who has tested positive won’t be at school, they will be isolation at home so there is NO reason to panic.  Hopefully this scenario doesn’t happen but if it does we will follow all NSW Health advice.

THURSDAY

We will follow the same format as last week. All boys will attend school for the first two periods and then we will bus (5 buses) down to Oxford Falls for recess, sport and lunch.  If you choose to pick up your son, it will be from 1.30 pm to 1.45 pm in front of the Christian Brother’s Centre. This is the plan for the remainder of the term unless you are informed otherwise.

SATURDAY SPORT

If your son is playing at Oxford Falls this Saturday there will again be a no parent rule. The under 11s traditional rugby team will be playing at Oxford Falls.   At the other IPSHA venues a one parent rule applies unless we are told otherwise by the school. If this happens you will be informed.

News: Please make sure you are familiar with COVID-19 Protocols at both home and away venues - see below.  Please ensure all players are at the venue 30 minutes prior to kick-off for warm-up. Good Luck!

Thursday Sport: Training for AFL, Football and Rugby.

AFL

It was great to see 16 willing and able boys playing their first game of IPSHA junior AFL for St Pius X. Whilst the final result against Newington did not go our away, for almost half the boys this was their first game of competitive AFL and it was obvious to me that the more the game progressed the better our team played.

It is important to highlight that we outscored the opposition in the second half as our teamwork improved.

Thank you to Mr Patterson for his Team Manager support as well as several volunteer parents who helped with other game day roles.

Athletics

Unfortunately, the IPSHA carnival has been cancelled for 2020. St Pius Athletics will continue to train to enable the boys to develop their skills etc. In lieu of our own carnival we will be conducting age group championships at our training session.

Training will take place on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons at Rotary War Memorial Athletics Track: Mowbray Rd West, Lane Cove West from 4.00 pm - 5.00 pm. Training is a “come to what you can” basis. Priority goes to other school sport where there are clashes.

Buses will transport students to and from Chatswood after school with a 5.00 pm pick-up option at the venue. Students should return to Chatswood by around 5.20 pm.

Training Dates

Monday:  3/8, 10/8, 17/8

Wednesday: 29/7, 5/8, 12/8, 19/8

Thursday: 30/7, 6/8, 13/8, 20/8

Rugby

A great start to the season with some promising results and great effort put in by all. Great to see so many boys playing after what turned into a very long and trying pre-season. Please maintain your standards of sportsmanship as we have set the bar high to start the season. Stay positive and stick together. Remember: You can’t change what has happened, focus on what you will do next. Please ensure you read the Protocols attached above for your venue.

Mrs Martin's Book Trail:  Finding Francois by Gus Gordon

Bonjour! Take an adventure through Paris with Finding Francois by @gusgordonbooks. This is a marvellous, gently funny and reassuring tale about a piglet called Alice and her little dog friend, Fancois, who are separated by the River Siene and send bottles with their letters tucked inside to stay in touch.#mrsmartinsbooktrail2020
