Homeroom Group/Individual, Performing Arts and Other Group Photos

These photos will take place on Monday 3 August. Due to COVID-19 restrictions we will not be taking Year Group photos this year. Photos of each Homeroom will be taken instead. These will be taken in front of the Podium during Period 1 – 3 along with Individual photos in a classroom nearby. Order Forms will be given out to each student today. Please fill these out clearly indicating what Homeroom your child is in. These forms will then be given to the photographers on the day once their Homeroom photos has been taken.

During Periods 4 – 6 the Performing Arts and other Group photos will be taken. The Running Order is attached here. Order forms for these photos will be available on the day and will be due back to the College at a later date.

All students must be wearing their full Winter Uniform and must bring their ID card with them to each photo they are in.

Duke of Edinburgh's Award

During the course of Term 2, many students have been active in continuing the activities required to complete the Duke Of Edinburgh’s Award. While this has been challenging in the current COVID-19 Pandemic, it is important to remind students that there are still many ways to keep engaged and be active in the Award.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Website has a range of great suggestions that can assist you to have ideas on how to complete each individual area. I have provided a link here for you to read the RESOURCES and assist you to complete the award. https://dukeofed.com.au/delivering-the-award-during-the-covid-19-virus-outbreak/

Again, the following Q and A sheet is also helpful. It is also on display in the school display cabinet at the Student Office.

As we are not having large meetings at this time, please meet me by appointment or contact me in an email if you would like some assistance with your Award or Online Record Book.

The Evatt Competition

On Tuesday 30 June, Ben Cullen and Will Staber of Year 10 participated in the 2020 NSW Evatt Competition, run by UN Youth Australia. Their report is below.

Mr Mark Pawlak - Year Ten Co-ordinator

The Evatt Competition is a debating and diplomacy competition for high school students in Australia and involves a mock session of the United Nations Security Council. The competition is named after the notable Herbert “Doc” Evatt, an Australian High Court Justice and a leading Federal politician who became President of the UN General Assembly and helped draft the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This year, the Evatt Competition was held in an online format using Zoom and Slack. Throughout the competition, teams of two students debated and negotiated, performing speeches to the council, lobbying other nations and amending each resolution to ensure it met their nation’s interests.

We were fortunate enough to be assigned ‘the Republic of Indonesia,’ debating two resolutions throughout the round. Considering the fact that we were completely new to the competition, we did extremely well, making one significant amendment to each resolution, something that was only matched by four other teams.

Overall the Evatt Competition was an immensely worthwhile and beneficial experience for both of us. It compelled us to debate and negotiate at a pace far quicker than we ever had before, encouraging us to think on our feet, compromise and explain our point of view. But perhaps most importantly, it provided us with an opportunity to engage with serious modern-day issues that will affect our world far into the future.

Science Club Report - Thursday 23 July

Last week in Science Club, we did a fantastic STEM activity... which was making our own hologram projectors. These projectors are surprisingly simple to construct. All you need is some clear plastic sheets, scissors, a stencil and a tablet/PLD to project the hologram videos. The boys really enjoyed the activity. It was also great to see some new faces. Remember that Science Club will be on again Thursday Week 3 at 1.00 pm in S2. All Year 7 and 8 students are welcome.
