LIBRARY NEWS

This Week in the Library

Welcome to another week in the library and we’re continuing to explore the library’s non-fiction resources. Kindergarten will read more fiction and non-fiction books this week and be comparing dog stories ‘Pig the Star ‘by Aaron Blabey and ‘Pet Dogs Up Close’ by Erika Shores to determine which is fiction and non-fiction. After reading them both, we’ll be looking at features that give them clues as to what type of book they are. Last week we read ‘Pet Cats Up Close’ by Gillia Olson and I sent students with cats off to see if there really are 24 whiskers on the upper lip of each cat. Apologies to all the pet cats...

Stage 1 are continuing to explore the school’s digital library, SORA, and learning how to borrow and return books this week. Instructions to access this library from home can be found in last week’s newsletter. Stage 2 and 3 are now starting to use World Book Web (an online encyclopedia) to find information about a topic and we’ve been discovering amazing facts about a wide variety of topics. Instructions to access this website will be included below.

Recommended Reading Lists

Do you find it hard to select good books for your child to read? If this is you, renowned children’s author and teacher-librarian, Ms Megan Daley has released book recommendations for lower, middle and upper grades of school designed to inspire your child to read more. These lists include 20 must-read books for you to share and explore with your child and showcase exceptional writing, illustrating and diversity in all forms. The hope of these invaluable lists is to introduce you to authors and illustrators that you otherwise would not have found. We are so lucky to have such a well-resourced library that most of these books are available for your child to borrow right now. Please let me know if there is anything you would like your child to take home by sending an email to library@holytrinity.nsw.edu.au.

World Book Web

To access the school’s online encyclopedia ‘World Book Web’ go to the Library website here. From this website, you can not only access World Book Web but also SORA, Storybox Library and Clickview. Once on this website, go to:

  • World Book Web
  • K-2 - Select ‘Early World of Learning’
  • Years 3-6 - select ‘Kids’
  • Secondary - select ‘Student’

Your child will need to enter their school user name and password which (hopefully!) they may know or you can get for this from their classroom teacher. Ask your children to show you what they’ve learnt.
