ELC Update

Now that we have once again entered back into Stage 3 restrictions, we have made contact with all our families and are supporting them in any way we can during these stressful and difficult times via email, phone, Zoom and with our online Story Park forum.

To help our children develop a better understanding of our current reality, both the children at kindergarten and at home will embarking on a project focusing on how we can stay healthy and safe and who within our community can help us to achieve this. This will not only encompass an understanding of social distancing and COVID-19 ect., but what is good hygiene, healthy eating, road safety and people within our community that help us stay safe and healthy.

At kindergarten we began exploring this inquiry project by watching the short story, “Birdie and the Virus” on the television. This was developed by Children’s Health Queensland to help Australian children cope with the global pandemic.

The book follows Birdie and her friend Mr Frog as they face the challenges posed by a virus spreading in their community. After Mr Frog becomes sick, the book takes children on a journey of recovery from testing for the virus and treatment.

The children also enjoyed listening to and learning the washing hands song.  We feel that this is a very good presentation, as it reinforces the importance of staying home, hand washing and keeping connected with friends during isolation.  It will very interesting to see how this inquiry project will unfold. Below is the link to this story so that you can read the story at home also.
