5-6 Food Tech

Food Tech News

Welcome Year 5 to Food Technology. The aim of this subject is to allow our students to continue developing and practising the kitchen skills previously learnt in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program in Years 3 & 4.

When at school, students would normally work in groups of three to make simple dishes whilst practising teamwork, kitchen safety and hygiene with supervision. This term as students are learning from home, the Food Tech Team have been working very hard to make videos that are engaging and simple enough for students to learn the much needed skills to succeed with minimal help from family members.

Each fortnight students are encouraged to cook then submit evidence on Compass of their notes and photos of their final products if the necessary ingredients and equipment are available.

Our first remote learning cooking lesson was to understand the importance of Kitchen Safety and Hygiene Rules. Here’s what some 5E students wrote.

I look forward to seeing what our students upload next!
