Australian Maths Competition 2020 | Thursday, August 6

The Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) has been held annually since 1978. Your child is invited to enter this internationally recognised competition. One of the largest annual events on the Australian education calendar, the AMC was the first competition of its kind in Australia and is now one of the largest of its type in the world. More than 30 countries participate each year.

The competition aims to be accessible to all students from Years 3 to 12, not just the mathematically gifted. There is an emphasis on problem solving, a valuable life skill, and the questions are designed to be fun for the student. If you would like your child to be involved in this exciting opportunity, please provide consent on Compass and there is a charge of $7.50 per person to be made online or at the General Office. All students in Years 7 to 12 are encouraged to enter.

Production 2020 | Update

With the ever-changing circumstances that the global pandemic has caused, the Production Team are working harder than ever to ensure the creativity, nerve and talent of our student body can still be shared with the wider community.

We are so proud to be able to offer the opportunity to present some of the numbers of Mary Poppins in our new variety cabaret style production, which we call: The Practically Perfect Spectacular! Three nights of music, song and dance, as well as filmed clips and interviews– a thoughtful reflection of the current global climate. The Design Internship will transform the foyer and display their incredible work on the production – and transport you into a world where “anything can happen if you let it”.

Further to this, our Production Team are partnering with an organisation called AIME – providing education and mentoring to Aboriginal and marginalised young people to ensure everyone, no matter their circumstances, have access to a bright future. We will be using our privilege of putting on a production as a chance to fundraise and educate ourselves to open up more “Imagination Factories” across the country.

The Practically Perfect Spectacular will take place in the last week of Term 3, at our very own Bunjil Centre. We will be keeping close tabs on crowd regulations in the lead up – we hope to be able to fill our theatre, but we are mindful that this might not be possible. Plans are in motion to work with whatever the circumstances will be, and we will make sure the community will get the chance to see this production – one way or another!

Here are what some students have to say:

"After we found out that we would get to begin the rehearsals before the end of term 2 I was elated! I'm sure everyone, including me, were so excited to finally put together what we learnt online, on stage! I am really looking forward to all the rehearsals, yet to come. I am also looking forward to supporting indigenous students getting better educations, by partnering with AIME. I can’t wait to perform the 2020 production, it’s definitely going to be Practically Perfect!" - Sophia S.

"Modifications that the have been made to WHSC Production 2020, have come into play for it to be set at the school's Bunjil Centre. It is set to transform our schools normal Performing Arts room into the cabaret style show of A Poppins Spectacular, with some of the original musicals hit numbers, including the wonderous choreography and musical styles that the school offers. These changes are both beneficial to VCE students, new comer musical lovers and the rest of the Production cast as a chance to give the community a show.

"When Ms. Lentini had released the new production rehearsal plan at the return to school, I was ecstatic! It made me so happy that we still had a show to perform and something to commit. When the first rehearsal of 'Step in Time' came to be it was the most fun I had, had in a while. I love these rehearsal times with all my heart and hope to treasure the future ones even more.  The program that the Production team will be partnering with, AIME, is an organisation that assists Indigenous people all around Australia with various opportunities to help them in the long run of graduating and future career searching. The Production profits will be donated to this program as a way for WHSC to show our appreciation and representation of the Indigenous students who attend secondary school's all over the country.  The things I'm looking forward the opportunity to display the schools range of talents, to give the community a sense of excitement and wonder, and to encourage other future performers to believe that "Anything Can Happen if you let it". - Rahnee P.

"The Practically Perfect Spectacular will both allow the VCE students to prepare and study for their upcoming exams and will give younger students experience for their future.

"Once I stepped into the 'Step In Time' rehearsals, happiness filled me and I couldn’t believe that the people in there were the ones I was so used seeing on my laptop screen. My excitement carried on through all the rehearsals and will most definitely carry on through all the future ones.

"Regarding the recent news, WHSC has decided to partner up with AIME to help support all the Aboriginal students and give them a better chance at graduating. All the money we would have raised from the ‘Practically Perfect Spectacular', and other fundraising events, will go to AIME.

"Personally, I'm looking forward to all the rehearsals in school and the performance which I believe will be the greatest of them all. Partnering with AIME would be another thing that I am looking forward to as I would be a part of helping multiple kids learn the best that they can." - Amineh A.

The Cancer Council Biggest Morning Tea

Wheelers Hill Staff again participated in the Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea fundraising event this year. Due to COVID-19 restrictions we could not hold it in May, as planned. As we could not all gather together, we had to think creatively so  we did a Remote Biggest Morning Tea. We raised $285!
