What's happening in our classrooms

Grade 5

Grade 5

What a busy start to term 4! The grade 5 students have continued to surprise us with their resilience and eagerness to learn during flexible and remote learning.  Thank you to all the families for the support they have provided us and their children with learning from home.

Literacy

Within Reading this term we will be focusing on analysing. Students are analysing a variety of texts, they have been reading between the lines and delving deeper into the true meaning of illustrations in texts written by authors, such Shaun Tan and Anthony Browne. Students have also been exploring response writing. We have been experimenting with a variety of positive and negative judgment words for food, hotels and movies.

Numeracy

For numeracy this term, the Grade 5s have been focusing on multiplication and mastering partitioning and the grid (box) method as efficient strategies for problem solving before moving into long multiplication.  We will then move into division and its connection to multiplication.  Fractions and decimals will be the learning priority once we resume onsite learning full time.

Creativity

The grade 5s are an incredible group of creative and artistic students.  They have attended online creativity classes with enthusiasm and dedication.  They have been creating a variety of paper craft pieces with chatterboxes, origami creatures and abstract drawing to name a few.

Food Technology

Online classes with Mrs Wilson were introduced during this lockdown period and the student response was overwhelmly positive that it became part of their weekly schedule.  Some photos of online classes can be found below.
