Socktober Day - Crazy Socks and Sockball 'Shoot Out'

The Student Action Council have asked that we get behind the Catholic Mission's focus for 2022 which involves raising money for the Ethiopian village of Emdibir's Goat Farm; used as a community pantry for families to come and access nourishing milk for their children. It costs $117 to buy a goat for the farm and $77 for food, medicine and care for the farm animals for two weeks.

The SAC are asking students to WEAR CRAZY SOCKS on Socktober Day, Friday 29th October, and to bring a donation equal to the cost of a purchased drink (eg chocolate milk, soft drink, hot chocolate,  etc), in order to remind our students of why we are raising money for the people of Emdibir.

On that day we will organise a 'Sockball Shoot Out'; our 5/6 students will use their own 'Sockball'. These 'Sockballs' were designed and made as a STEM Project in class. The project was linked to Catholic Social Justice and their FBI unit on 'Global Connection' to others. Catholic Missions Australia use the 'Sockball' as a symbol of connection. When Australian children kick their 'Sockball' around, they are sharing in the experience of children from Africa, Asia, South America and the Pacific Islands, who can only play with this kind of ball. It also illustrates for our students the concept of the "haves and have nots".
