QTAC Applications Reminders

Great to see a large number of Year 12s have put in their QTAC applications and are hoping to get an offer for tertiary studies! If you have not done this yet, and are interested in going to university next year, it is vital to do this soon, and always check offer round dates and cut offs for the particular courses you are interested in. Ensure you know when the offer rounds are and that you are checking your emails at this time to respond to your offer! You can ask Ms Kenny for assistance with your planning, email kennye@marash.qld.edu.au and don’t forget you can always call QTAC with any questions on: 1300 467 822.

Students interested in applying for ‘Early offer schemes’ that are offered by some universities, at this stage should have already applied or should be adding supporting documents to your application. Good luck with these applications, and ensure you read the university website carefully about what is required.

Key QTAC dates to keep in mind

We have had some very informative lunchbox sessions last week. Thank you to our PE/Sport department & Ms Orcher for talking to the boys about Indigenous Health. Thank you to Ms Genevieve Long (Our School Psychologist) for her session on Psychology careers.  This Friday, there will be a POP-UP careers stand at break one, near the Careers Centre.

Mrs Orcher and some of the attendees last week at the Indigenous Health Session:

We have also just completed some very relevant Voc Masterclasses and we thank all of our trainers for their time and passion. The boys were able to select from a range of topics based on “things I didn’t learn at school but wished I had”.

Classes covered year 13 essentials such as My Gov, TFN, Superannuation, Credit, Budgets, Car Maintenance and how to set up a Flat – including shopping, cooking and cleaning.

A highlight of the three weeks was a session on “How to Write a Job Securing Resume”. A big thanks to Ashlee Carrigan from BNWTTC for coming in to show the boys what’s relevant and what’s not.

In other news, at the recent Awards Night, we were able to recognise some of our very talented and committed boys. See below the most recent list of recognised VET students.

In a year post-COVID restrictions which saw 44 new school-based sign-ups, MCA continues to lead the way in the VET Sector.

Congratulations to the following students that have recently signed into a school-based apprenticeship:

Bailey Caplick – Hutchinson Builders, Finn De Nino – Bryter Days Construction, Hugh Hodgetts – MacWest Construction, Cody Radman – Natural Lifestyle Homes and Jack Christensen – Sulzer Australia.

A special mention to Declan Frechtling who secured a full-time position with All Hose and Valves after completing a few days’ work experience, which then turned into Term 3 holiday work, after which Declan was offered a full-time position when he finishes school this year.

Well done boys! A great start to your future.

This year’s sign-ups take our ten-year tally to over 500!

Honourable mentions this year are many, but it would be hard to go past Year 10 student Jack Lafferty who leaving us at the end of the year to commence full-time in the building industry; Year 12 students - Tom Perrin who persevered to get a light mechanical School Based Apprenticeship; Carter Bidgood who did the AccelR8 programme and travelled many miles to lock down a Heavy Vehicle apprenticeship; Harry Gould captain of 1st XV and Angus Blomley, who were injured in Rugby season, but kept their apprenticeship going; Zane Seeto who finally got into Barber work; Josef Wagner following Jimmy Barker into concierge and Motel management; and Jack Christenson (Champagnat recipient this year) in Ag and Rural Studies and has now secured a school-based apprenticeship in electrical which will convert to a full-time apprenticeship next year.

Our Brother Harold VET awardee commenced his VET journey in Year 10 by successfully completing the Cert II in Outdoor Recreation. He then boldly took a non-ATAR pathway in Years 11 and 12 by taking Cert 1 Construction, Cert II Engineering, Cert III Theology, and a Diploma in Business. He is on track to achieve over 35 QCE points. After completing some Work Experience in the Real Estate field, he signed up as a Cert III Business school-based trainee in financial management and investment. He fast-tracked the completion of his certificates at school so that he could put extra hours into his school-based traineeship.

His behaviour is impeccable and his mature independent approach to his work - noteworthy.

Brother Harold 2022 Recipient – Killian Jeffrey
