Be Sealed With The Gift of the Holy Spirit
Sacrament of Confirmation
Last Tuesday afternoon, we welcomed Bishop Don Sproxton to our school and parish community. During his visit, he spent time talking to the Confirmation Candidates about their faith journeys, how the Fruits and Gifts of the Holy Spirit will guide and assist them in making the right decisions and their commitment to the church.
This weekend, our Year 6 students and parish children will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation at Our Lady's Assumption Parish Church. As they all take the next step along their faith journey, I wish them an enjoyable and memorable experience as they are sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit.
Year 3G Teacher
I warmly welcome Mrs Rebecca Vella to OLA as the new Year 3G Teacher, replacing Mrs Prya Calleja, who will be taking leave.
I wish Mrs Calleja all the best and she prepares for the safe arrival of her child in the coming weeks.
‘No Standing’ Along Chester Avenue
During my afternoon duties, I have noticed cars queued along Chester Avenue, waiting for their children and creating congestion.
Although this is out of my jurisdiction, I am concerned for the safety of our OLA children. The area is not a designated ‘Drop Off & Pick Up Area’ hence as stated by the signage, it’s a ‘No Standing’ area. Local residents have contacted the school complaining about cars lined up along Chester Avenue and the congestion it is causing. It has been brought to my attention that the City of Stirling has been contacted.
I have been advised previous School Boards have investigated the possibility of constructing a ‘Drop Off & Pick Up’ area outside the school’s Administration Building, but were unable to pursue the concept due to the lack of space. Councils will only permit constructing a ‘Drop Off & Pick Up’ area if the school has sufficient land.
Having taught at various schools, where parking has been a problem, OLA is very fortunate to have many parking bays at Dianella Plaza. For an extra 5 minutes of your time, and for safety of our children, I respectfully request you park your vehicles at Dianella Plaza, walk to the school and collect your children.
School Winter Uniform
Thank you to all of the parents who are supporting the school’s uniform policy by ensuring their children are wearing the correct uniform. Some children are still wearing their summer uniform, understandably because of the warmer days we have been having, and we have allowed this to occur. Commencing next week, I request all students wear their full winter uniform, unless we have days over 30 degrees.
NAPLAN Testing
Congratulations to the students in Years 3 & 5 who completed the NAPLAN assessments during the week. Results of the assessments will be received later in the year and distributed to parents.
Outside School Hours Care and Vacation Care
OLA is currently completing a feasibility study to determine if a school based OSHC and Vacation Care program can be established at the school.
If there is a possibility your children may attend the program, please complete the attached expression of interest PDF below and email the completed document to karen.meleca@cewa.edu.au by Friday 25 May.
