Stage of the Week

Stage 1 - Year 1 & 2

This edition of Bytes we are featuring Stage 1. Stage 1 includes Mrs Baker's, Mrs Hefferan's, Mrs Parsons' and Mrs Landstra's classes.

Budding paleontologists!

Stage 1 have been very busy learning this term! Our main theme is 'Dinosaurs and More' with all of our students attending “Paleontology School”. As Paleontologists, we have studied fossils, skeletons and teeth of modern day animals and dinosaurs to help us understand what they looked like, how they moved, and what they ate.

Last week, we received a special box from the museum of Australia with many replica fossils from the Australian Dinosaur Site at Winton in Queensland. Each class will have the chance to closely examine the contents of this box over the next few weeks.

Being active

Year 2 have had the opportunity to participate in a soccer program in the first half of this term and Stage 1 started their Gymnastics program last week.

Our Learning

Writing has been a focus across Primary this term. In Stage 1, our writing skills have developed as we have completed Sentence of the Day in Year 1 and Sizzling Sentence Starters in Year 2. We have produced many information reports about different types of dinosaurs and have been practicing our story writing every Friday.

In Numeracy we have been engaged in investigating Multiplication and Division skills. The students have enjoyed using concrete materials to develop their understanding of these concepts. As keen mathematicians, they have been learning to apply their knowledge to solve practical everyday problems.

Creative Play

On Friday afternoons we enjoy Creative Play time with our friends. The children look forward to joining in many different activities, as they share, take turns and problem solve in a play setting. This is one of our favourite times in the week!
