Le Tour de Worrigee - the 5th edition

On Monday 31 October we held our 5th annual Tour de Worrigee. Students enjoyed riding around on scooters over 3 stages: road stage, mountain stage and the time trials. The weather was perfect being cool and overcast.

This was followed by opportunity for students to create a croque-monsieur (a toasted ham and cheese sandwich) and an Eiffel Tower model. They also watched part of the Tour de France 2020 and learnt more about the Eiffel Tower.

The final activity was watching a movie, 'The Walk'. This is an amazing true story about a French man who walked a tight-rope between the twin towers in New York in 1974! This is a feat that will never be repeated!

Some student comments:

'I enjoyed riding around school and spending time with friends.' AH
'The scootering was good, so was making the Croque-Monsieur.' NT
'My favourite part was watching the movie and eating snacks.' GD

Interschool French Language Speaking

By Madame Wilkinson

With the HSC oral exams happening very soon, students from NCS went to Nowra High School on last Saturday (30 Aug.) for a French speaking skills morning. Activities included mingling opportunities and Kahoot. Each student also had two 5 minute interviews with a teacher from the other school. The 'sweetener' was a French morning tea with croissants, baguettes, fromage, macarons and fresh berries.

Please pray for these students as the HSC orals are on this Saturday 5 September. The video below featured in last week's Secondary Assembly and gives you an idea of what these HSC students will be doing in their exam.

Marcos wins Young Writers Award for his book cover design

Congratulations to Year 10 student, Marcos N, who was awarded the Book Cover Design Award, the SSPAN Young Writers Awards 2020. Due to COVID-19 constraints, Marcos was unable to be presented with his award in a normal assembly but Mrs Meek and Mrs Arthur did present the award to him in front of his class. Watch the presentation below and listen to Marcos explain what he had to do for the competition.

Primary classes adopt HSC students

A defining feature of our school community is our commitment to pray and encourage those facing 'trials'. This has certainly been the case at NCS over the past few weeks as each primary class 'adopted' four senior students to pray for and encourage as the HSC 'Trials' rapidly approached.

From Kindergarten to Year 6, primary students diligently prayed for God’s peace and strength to be with each senior student as they studied, finished assignments and prepared for their exams. Each senior student also received a card, lovingly made by their foster class, with words of encouragement, bible verses and well wishes.

It was lovely to see so many wise words of encouragement, reminding students to rely on God, choose a growth mindset and know how unique and special they are. It was great to see faith in action in such a tangible, practical way.
