Musical Mural Competition
Back in 2020, when Covid19 first sent the performing arts world into a tailspin, Uni High was forced to postpone its beloved annual musical. In its place, a series of alternate programs and activities were run to provide students access and opportunity to extra-curricular artistic pursuits.
One such opportunity was the Mural Competition which saw students submit original designs for a mural painting, with the prize-winner receiving the right to have their design adorn a wall in the Performing Arts wing. Nicole T, then of 10G2, submitted the winning design, and while continuing complications from Covid restrictions and lockdowns throughout 2020 and 2021 delayed the process of turning this fabulous design into a reality, the end of 2021 saw this work finally come to fruition.
With the help of some trusty backstage crew and friends, Nicole T was able to complete this work after finishing her studies for the year, leaving her mark on Uni High as a fabulous mural which can now be enjoyed by all who pass through the building. Nicole’s artist statement, originally submitted along with her winning design, has been included below.
Artist Statement:
This mural is inspired by the performing arts and includes different poses (some can be interpreted in different ways) that represent music, dance and drama. The colours used are fun and vibrant, and I hope this design can bring the students joy when they walk past if they're feeling down or just in general for years to come :)
