African Drumming
The Year 7 music curriculum includes the study of music from other countries and, as part of this study, we run African Drumming workshops. Unfortunately, due to last year’s shut down, we were unable to have the workshops, so we postponed them to be part of the End of Year activities.
There were two sessions, with approximately 50 students in each, and the students that attended were each given a Djembe drum. The two people running the workshop were full of energy and enthusiasm and had the students playing, singing and dancing. They explained the different drums and demonstrated the koto, which is a type of stringed instrument. Hopefully, in term three this year, we will be able to have workshops for all year 7s.
