Term 4 Sports Academy

Term 4 Sports Academy & Fitness Sessions Program

 

It has been so good to welcome our Sports Academy athletes back to campus over the last few weeks and we were particularly impressed with the commitment the students displayed to at home workouts and online programming whilst remote learning. Big ‘claps’ to all involved, it has been a tough year.

 

All Sports Academy Sessions for Sports Academy students started Monday 25 October:

  • Tuesday 7:30-8:30am Sports Coaching AFL, Basketball, Soccer and Netball
  • Wednesday 7:30-8:30am Athlete Conditioning (Running, Speed & Agility)
  • Thursday 7:30-8:30am Year 7-8 Athlete Development Surf Coast Secondary
  • Thursday 7:30-8:30am Year 9 Athlete Development CrossFit Bells Beach
  • Friday 7:00-8:00am Open Water Swim/Beach Running Cosy Corner Torquay

All fitness sessions for any SCSC student is free of charge from Monday 25 October:

  • Monday Boxing & Core 3:15-4:00pm at SCSC Stadium
  • Thursday Social Sports (Basketball & Futsal) 3:15-4:00pm at SCSC Stadium
  • Thursday Speed & Agility 4:15-5:00pm at SCS Stadium

2022 Sports Academy Program

In 2022, the SCSC Sports Academy will be run as a progressive pathway for Year 7-12 students, with a separate program for Year 7-9 and Year 10-12.

 

2022 Year 7-9 Sports Academy Program Inclusions

 

1) Athlete Development: One morning per week before school, the student’s complete an athlete development/strength and conditioning session. Our Athlete Development sessions have a different focus for each year group and are programmed to the individuals needs.

 

2) Specialist Sports Coaching: One morning per week before school, for the students who are selected for the sports of Basketball, Netball, AFL and Soccer. New sports for 2022 include Cricket, Multi-Sport (Surf Lifesaving, Mountain Bike, Cross Country, and Triathlon) and Sports Conditioning (Fitness Training).

 

3) Athlete Education Days: Consists of one day each term, where the students will be involved in workshops at school with the SSA staff or attend an excursion in the topics of Sport Nutrition & Recovery, Mental Health & Wellbeing and High-Performance Sport.

 

4) Sports Academy Camp: Occurs in December and in 2022, we are preparing for the Year 7-9 students to head to the Gold Coast Performance Centre (all camps COVID restrictions pending).

 

2022 Year 10-12 Sports Academy Program Inclusions

 

1) Athlete Development: One-two mornings per week before school, the student’s complete an athlete development/strength and conditioning session. Our Athlete Development sessions have a different focus for each year group and are programmed to the individuals needs.

 

2) Training Plan Mentor & Guidance: The athlete will be provided a mentor within the SSA team who will work with the athlete at the start of each term as a 30 minute planning session to guide the athletes training schedule to best fit in all community, school and representative sport to avoid injury and burnout.

 

3) One Specialist Appointment Each term: The athlete will have one 30 minute appointment each term with a specialist from our team including Exercise Physiology, Physiotherapy, Sports Nutrition, Podiatry or Athlete Wellbeing. 

 

4) Sports Academy Camp: Occurs in December and in 2022, we are preparing for the Year 10-11 students to head to the Sunshine Coast Sports Institute (all camps COVID restrictions pending).

2021 After School Tutoring Program

This program is designed to benefit students by clarifying understanding, gaining more literacy and numeracy skill, seeking assistance in foil subjects, staying up to date on tasks, and giving more time to achieve set outcomes.

 

When back on site, all students are invited to attend either Tuesday and Thursday (Maths and Creative) or Wednesday  (Maths and English)  from 3pm until 4pm.
