SRC News

Hey Nossal, its officially the end of Term 2 and Semester 1 as well! The SRC hoped you all enjoyed this term and ended Semester 1 feeling proud and fulfilled with how much you’ve achieved. For SRC, we have some accomplishments from this term we are excited to reflect on and share with you all as well.

On Monday 1 May, Nossal held our House Athletics Day! Partnering with the Nossal production team, the SRC held our annual BBQ, raising over $1200! Alongside these stalls were Formation’s face painting, Production’s hair styling and NEST’s drink stalls which were also a massive hit on the day.

Term 2 Week 3 was certainly a memorable week for the SRC, including the SRC Assembly, SRC Q&A and SRC SENS Summit. The SRC Assembly and SRC Q&A were held to engage with Nossal students and to focus especially on transparency between the student body and leadership teams, whilst discussing some projects that the SRC have worked on and some that can be anticipated up ahead! One of the major projects new to this year is the SRC Instagram page (@nossalsrc). This page continues to grow, having reached almost 400 followers, a term after opening the account! Make sure to follow and stay up to date on all our upcoming announcements and news if you still haven't followed it yet!

Moreover, on the Tuesday 9 May, the SRC accompanied by Ms. Bonham, traveled to Melbourne High School to attend the annual Selective Entry Network Schools summit. SRC representatives from all four selective schools participated in leadership workshops and meetings to discuss and plan future collaborations. Preparations for SENs events for the Year 10 and Year 11 cohort are underway, so make sure to look out for future announcements!

Nossal's push up challenge this month, led by Raine Liu (Yr 12), has been a tremendous success with participants over a period of two weeks contributing to a total of over 35000 push-ups, and more than $1400 raised towards mental health charities! It has been wonderful seeing school mates bonding over push-ups, and speaking about the daily mental health fact. The event has been a great way to get all year levels involved and to get Nossal active and moving. With the anticipated goal of raising awareness of mental health and improving physical activity levels, students were more willing to join the challenge for fun!

Overall, the month of June has been very impactful. There have been numerous assessments for the Years 11 and 12 students, along with midyear topic tests for the younger year levels. In these times it is easy for one to forget to just take a moment to check in on themselves. We hope the push up challenge has been one useful strategy for students to put mental health awareness on the forefront of their minds, including checking in on a friend, or taking some time to take care of yourself. We hope that next year Nossal is once again partaking in the push-up challenge with an even larger group of students to help spread this mental health message through the school.

A special shout out to Raine for organising this successful event! If you would like to support the students involved and help raise awareness, please feel free to visit: https://www.thepushupchallenge.com.au/fundraisers/NossalHighSchool/the-push-up-challenge

Here are things to look out for Term 3!
