Learning Updates -

School of Possibilities

Year 10 and 11 students have demonstrated many of their learner assets over the past few days to successfully attend and complete their Semester 1 exams. Students have been great self-managers, arriving for their exams at the times assigned. They have been great researchers and collaborators, with some students using the supervised study sessions at school to work in study groups to prepare for the exams. They have helped others to succeed by ensuring the exam rooms are calm and quiet, and expectations and rules are followed. Well done to all of the Year 10 and 11 students.

Exams conclude on Monday 19th June, with normal classes running for the remainder of the week. Learning programs continue right until the end of the semester and students are expected to participate fully on these days. We want to build a culture that values our learning programs and this includes attendance, right up to the last day of term. We appreciate the support of our families in ensuring our students are attending all school days, including the last day of term. School finishes at the normal time of 3:15pm on the 22nd June.

The online portal for subject selections is still in the set up phase. We will inform families as soon as subject selections open for our Year 10, 11 and 12 students in 2024. A reminder that Year 10 students will begin new electives next term. The timetable will be available prior to the start of the Semester.

I would like to thank all of the families of our Year 10 and 11 students for the support you have given to your children during Semester 1. It has been wonderful to speak to many of you during our recent information nights.

Wishing all of our students a restful break! I am looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 11th July to begin Term 3.

Year 11 Vocational Major Numeracy

As part of an investigation into Pythagoras’ Theorem the VM students were given the challenge of producing the “set out” for a 10 metre by 10 metre square.

Using elements of their “mathematical toolkits” the students had to work in pairs to produce the set out hurdles and then in teams to undertake the set out.  The hurdles had to be measured and cut out from long lengths of timber, the bottom of the pegs cut at given angle and nailed together at set intervals.  Once the hurdles had been constructed two teams were made and the set out challenge commenced!

This is an example of the practical nature of Vocational Majors and their application beyond the classroom.
