Learning Updates -

School of Wonder

As Term 2 comes to an end, I would personally like to thank all students, families and staff for what has been an exciting and busy term. Students continue to learn through rich learning experiences with a focus on collaboration, communication and researching.

Assembly

Our final assembly for Term 3 occurred on Wednesday the 14th of June. This assembly was run by Laurel’s pastoral group and featured many of our SOW students. Special thanks to all of the students and staff who continue to contribute in making our assemblies a success. Thank you to our wonderful families who have attended and enabled us to share our achievements.

Year 3/4 Adventure Camp

Our students had a wonderful camp experience at Alexandra Adventure Camp.

'On camp we did the zipline, orienteering and archery.  In archery we had to hit the middle of the target.  When it was my turn I hit the other team's target, it was very funny.  Before afternoon tea, we played volleyball in the sand next to the lake.  I sat with Mia at afternoon tea, we had orange cordial and cake.  In our free time, I played ping pong with my friend Alex.  We then had dinner and time in our cabin to relax before our night walk.  It was then time for a shower and to change into our pj's.  We talked for a while before lights out.  After breakfast, we did low ropes, the giant swing and played a game called Gaga ball.  Gaga ball is a game that needs focus on all the other people because if the ball hits you under the knees, you are out.  We also went on the rack wall and played disc golf.  After dinner I had a shower and we watched a movie called Daddy Daycare.  In the morning after I packed up my suitcase and went to breakfast, we played crate stacking.  It was fun, the best bit about it was kicking the crates down.  We went on the bus and it was time to go back to school and that was the end of camp'.

'We went on a night walk and we played Gaga Ball. We played volleyball. My favourite activity was the Giant Swing. The low ropes were hard, but fun too. I enjoyed my time at camp'.

'Hi, I’m Gurekam and I went to school camp. I’m in Year 4. I am 9 years old. I was feeling sad and nervous, but I went! In my cabin was Jemma, Charlotte, Heli, Rehet and I. Our first activities were Volleyball and Bocce. We had a championship! I did not win, but it didn’t matter because I had fun. My two favourite activities were Archery and Orienteering. I had so much fun at camp and my group leaders were Marian and Kasey. Shannen could not come because she was sick. I had so much fun and I won’t forget it!'

'Hi, my name is Heli and I am 10 years old. Today I am going to tell you about our camp experience. At first, I felt nervous because I have only stayed away without my parents for 1 day. After we arrived, I was happy. Our first activity was Archery. I got the arrow on the board once. Jemma nearly got in the centre, but hit the yellow instead. My favourite activities were the Flying Fox and the Giant Swing. When we went home, I fell asleep on the bus. After we arrived home, I went and ran and hugged my Dad. I was happy to be home again'.

Visitors from our Community

Over the course of Term 2, we have had many visitors in SOW, from electricians to hairdressers and even a chef and baker! It has been wonderful to see so many wonderful people in our school community come and share their experiences. Our students have been enriched by these experiences and were able to engage and ask questions to further their knowledge and understanding.

We would like to thank all the wonderful people who have contributed to our Inquiry Learning this semester. We are so fortunate to be a part of a wonderful community.

Year 1/2 Church Excursion

On Tuesday our 1/2 students went to St Mel’s Catholic Church (Christ the King). Father Peter spoke to the students about preparing on their journey of the Sacraments; Baptism. He spoke about everyone being on their faith journey and how this is unique to everyone. Students were shown the symbols visible within the Church and explained various aspects of the building.

Market Day

Our students were privileged to be a part of Market Day on Tuesday. There were lots of goodies to purchase and many happy faces as a result. Thank you to our Year 9 students who provided this wonderful; opportunity for our students.

F-2 Dress up Day

To celebrate our learning, we will be holding a dress up day on Monday the 19th of June for Foundation, Yr 1 and Yr 2 students. Students can come dressed as a community member; for example, a Farmer, Lifeguard, Nurse, Tradesman, Vet, Emergency service worker, Baker, Florist etc. Please ensure that your child wears appropriate shoes for school. Parents are welcome to gather at the Teired Collective at 9:10am to watch the parade.

On behalf of all the staff at St Anne’s College, I wish all our families a safe and wonderful mid-year break. Enjoy your time together and catch your breath, ready to strive for amazing things in Semester 2.
